Question About My Fg Turbo Ute Exhaust And Whatever Else I Think Of :)

So I start the ute in the morning, let it idle for 30 seconds or a minute and slowly cruise off to work.

When it changes to second gear (6 speed auto) it makes a little thud, like it's in the cat.

Then one morning I pop it into sports mode and hold 1st gear and it does the same thud click thing that sounds and kinda feels like it is in the cat.

The warmer the ute is, the less noticeable the thud/click noise is. Just wondering what it could be???

Otherwise, I had the climate control fixed when it was a couple months old (Ford fixed it in the March 2010 models, mines a Feb '10 haha). Fitted the lower airbox off an XR8, it comes on boost a tiny bit earlier, sounds a tiny bit nicer, and goes a tiny bit better :)

I know I haven't been on in forever, sorry if this is in the wrong section and already been asked.

Cheers

Layton :)

Does it only make the thud noise once after starting the car and driving?

I remember reading somewhere that FG's make a small thud noise and it was something engaging in the driveline or something... I just cant remember the details plus I'm at work so dont have the time to look it up.

Mine makes a small thud noise that happens about 10 meters out of the driveway, so probably in line with the first change to 2nd. But I think I am just used to it and dont notice anymore.

Does it happen when you take off at around 15-20km/hr?

If so it could be the ABS going through it's self test.

Happens to all of them. I think that's what TotallyHaggard is talking about.

how can a thud come from the cat?

its gonna come from the usual places. driveline, diff etc etc

I cant hear mine when the abs does its check thing so doubt its that, but it could be given it happeneds to all FGs

But the warmer the engine is, the quieter the noise is. And it's not in the driveline, it's coming from the cat or maybe in front of it...

So it's not unheard of and some of yours make the same noise?
