Not going to try to justify the cost or defend others, but there is more to just buying product and then reselling it

here is a post I made previously

There is a lot more than Herrod buying a box in and putting a mark up on it.

Knowing how the Americans work, Herrods would have to purchase a minimum quantity and then a certain amount each year.

I have no idea how much but lets say he may have had to fork out a million dollars, just to purchase the boxes.

I assume they would be paying interest on the money

They have employed full time staff for customer support, that comes at a cost.

They would have to warehouse stock and have insurance in it.

They have to act as the australian arm of SCT and collect processor codes from new models as they are released, this would involve aquiring cars, having special equipment to be able to extract it and it would also take time.

I know that Rob has invested a lot of money in the ZF side of things to try to get it operating, including purchasing tran's, PCM's and valvebodies etc.

torque management has quite a few areas missing, auto trans (4 speed) has stuff missing from the top of my head, when I purchased the HP stuff, I was told that some BA's could not have boost control controlled correctly with it and an aftermarket controller may be required on some cars.

Power is normally the easist thing to get when tuning, the driveability stuff normally take the time to get

Being a sct dealer myself, the margin on the devices is fair. What many people don't realize when you're buying an x3 is that you are also paying for the most advanced ford data logging hardware and software available. Nothing else even comes close. You also have the ability to store 3 tunes as well as the factory tune. SCT is the premier tuning hardware and software and in the end of the day it's not that expensive. Ratter makes some very good comments above.

I have too agree with Ratter and Toads, SCT is better than HPT at this point. HPT make constant changes to the software as user request but they have alot of ground to make up.

IMHO SCT is a better choice for a workshop and an End user that wants there car tuned and then wants to drive it and forget about it.

HPT is a better choice for an enthuisiast who likes to tune there own car and is prepared to work with HPT to get the most out of the software for there individual car.

If I was a set and forget end user ann X-Cal 2/3 and a expert tuner like Ratter would be the go. :3gears:

Being that Im a budget conscious enthuisiast who doesnt mind waiting for changes I've gone with HPT :download:

(of course if i had the option to buy Advantage 3 that toady got i would have jumped at it too :innocent::))

Oh and 1 last dig at SCT, Anbody wanna buy and X-cal1 :dontknow::)

That's like how we were only ment to pay toll fees for the first 2 years or until project budget was reached for citylink. I'm saying how long can you have r&d costs on your unit for? You would think they would come down in price now that he has covered all the costs and it's now all profit. Because if that was the case well maybe tvs should be still 10k not 500 bucks.

Development is an ongoing thing, ford are continually updating ecu strategys, these strategys need to be supported, us tuners also have to pay for this, we recently had to pay for an update to allow us to tune euro 4 fords.

Top class Tv's cost a lot more than $500

Many members here have been to more than 1 tuner, once they own the X3 it can be used by any registered tuner with the tuning software, if you were using another brand of software, each different tuner would have to charge you for the licence fees to tune your car.
