Well, today all of my goodies arrived, I was finding the premuim sound option on the turbo territory ghia just didn't cut the mustard so I bought the following.

Soundstream 6.5 inch splits for the rear doors. 60w rms.

Soundstream 6.5 inch components for the front. 75w rms.

Kicker 8" slim comp Sub. 200w rms

Kenwood 175w rms amp to run the sub.

Fusion High/Low Line converter to get the signal for the Amp.

Normally I reserve myslef to the 'more power modding' of the engine kind, but this is my fist ever stereo upgrade and I'm a little in the dark. If anyone has any tips before I go fitting this stuff tomorrow It would be greatly appreciated. I'm assured by mates that it's pretty simple, and the hardest part is removing the door cards, lol. But I'd like to cover all bases. I've even got a spare car to use incase I need to run down to supercheap and get some spacers, although the 6.5 inch speakers don't seem as 'deep' as I expected.

Cheers guys, I'll add photos and videos tomorrow... Pending everything goes to plan, lol.

Hey,

Just plan your approach, bit by bit and dont pull too much apart so its a mission just to get it running again. Allow for more time than you expect, dont rush and above all, try to do the best you can.. Long after you forget how long it took, you will remember the quality of the finished product.

Suprised you didnt attempt the RCA Pre-out conversion listed on the site.. Promises much better sound quality..

Ive got a spare ICC and will give it a crack when I get a spare moment, lifes so busy at present.

Best of luck and hope it works out superbly.

Cheers,

Mal K

Okay, so we got the rear speakers fittd and wired. We added a 16mm spacer to each side of the fronts and fitted them no probs, although the tweeters wouldn't fit so we're doing up a custom surround for them in the factory position so that shoulod be good, and we found out that the factory sub is a 6x9 size, so I'm having a custom sealed box made up for the sub, and I'm gonna sell off the small kenwood amp and buy a 5 channel one that will power all the speakers, and the amp quite sufficiently.

The sound is a bit better but it's lacking still having the standard tweeters and sub in there amongst the new stuff. Time will tell if it all works well, I just need to scrape together a few more hundred to get the job done.

third update, lol.

Mal, I had some professional help from a mate who does custom instals for a living, I was going to do it on my own, but after an hour and only 1 speaker installed, he cam over and in 2 hours the job was completed, lol.

Today I adjusted the signal, so it was more orientated to the rear a bit mor than the front, probably 40/60 and have had to drop the bass off a bit as well as the bass just sounds wrong. It sounds a more balanced.

Please, if anyone who knows anything about sound and audio reads this can you please comment... I have the components in the front, and the splits in the rear doors. The sound from both front seats (and my wife agrees) seems as though it's only coming from the front speakers, the rears are almost non existant when sitting up front. When sittin at the back, it sounds alright.

Can I add components to the rear doors and and face the tweeters towards the front to give the sound more 'depth'?

Cheers guys.

Hi Matty,

Glad its going well and if in doubt, ask someone who knows their apples.. ha ha ha. I reckon that most factory systems are set up to create a front sound stage, as if the performer is in front of you. It may be an issue with finding the right fade or balance between the front and rear speakers, and perhaps having different speakers types may mean you need to drive one pair differently to the others, as Im sure they are different in efficency, therefore needing more power to work as intended.

To me, its sounds like it isnt far from factory in the way sound stage is presenting itself, I know I dont spend much time in the rear seat of our Territory, except when Im being chauffeured around by the wife after many beers, rums and suchlike and even though my memory is a little fuzzy, the best sound was in the front!

Unless you intend to really change things, it may just be how the sound balance, front to rear, was intended to be. Mind you, Im sure its much cleaner and better.

If you get a chance, post a pic or two,

Great work mate,

Mal K
