It was damp (not raining at the time though) and very hard braking was required due to someone in front wanting to turn right and the cars immediately following, not having a lot of notice. I had fully stoppped (I guess the 'permanent fix' for the brakes works after all) for what felt like quite a while (was probably almost instantaneously) and had time to look in the rear view to see a white one from the dark side doing an impersonation of a frog in a blender trying to pull up a car that was skidding. No such luck, nailed me fairly square on (slightly to the left side). I got out with the expectation of a huge mess, which, aside from the fact that this car is pretty important to me due to it being 1. a Ford, 2.my first ever brand new car and 3. a weapon of a car, I am leaving this Sat for a 2 week driving holiday in Cairns!! I found that cosmetically, the rear bumper looks like I just backed it pretty hard into a wall or something... it only has a few very deep scratches and the bottom portion has separated due to broken brackets etc. The rear beaver panel is damaged, so much so tha the smash repairs said that it will need to be replaced (there is a pretty big dent into the spare tyre well) and the taillights are out of alignment. The bottom of the boot lid is also damaged, but I have to say that knowing how hard it hit and the state of the front of the other car, I am pretty impressed how well she stood up to the hit. She is still driveable (I had a wheel alignment done and the left rear toe was out by 4.0mm from the hit)... chassis is straight though, so we will be off as planned on Sat to see a mate in Cairns who has been waiting 12 months to see/drive this car!! Repairs will be done upon our return.Sorry for the long-winded story, but Scotty (ktford) thought it appropriate that I shared my pain..... truth be known, he just wants another thread to post to (400 posts and still going) Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/7439-aaagghhh-accident/ Share on other sites

I hope that all is fixed & well for the Hols , no doubt a road trip in the T ?.Hope the beast is still the same awsome car it was ,when U get it back. Feel your pain and probably anger & frustrationGood Luck , White Tee Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/7439-aaagghhh-accident/#findComment-64439 Share on other sites

It is most definitely a driving holiday in the T. Can't wait to get her on the Gilies Hwy that comes down the range from the Atherton Tableland to just south of Cairns. It has 60something consecutive bends and is heaps of fun... provided you don't get caught behind miss daisy. I have done it in my EA, my AU and am much looking forward to doing it in the T. The T is great highway car. I drove it from Brisvegas to Perth and Monkey Mia WA earlier this year and loved every second of it.Cheers.Al. By the sounds of it, your car had a bit more damage than mine - only my bumper was damaged. I too was amazed at the time by how little damage was done considering it felt like a pretty hard knock.Only one thing to say...BUILT FORD TOUGH! Damage bill was $2400, but my ute was back to original in 2 weeks, and now you can't even tell that it was bent.Enjoy your driveCiaoCFlat Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/7439-aaagghhh-accident/#findComment-64473 Share on other sites

I know you'll get her back good as new & you'll also enjoy your holiday with your swmbo. In case I don't see/speak to you before you leave, travel safely, enjoy yourselves & stay away from Crummydores.Scotty Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/7439-aaagghhh-accident/#findComment-64487 Share on other sites

There are at least 130 consecutive right left turns and somthing like 200 in total.Best bet is to sit down the bottom, on a week-end day and wait for as long as you can since you have seen the last car going up.Then start your charge.I reckon this is the best bit of road I've seen in Oz, up or down. Every time I go to Cairns on busines I have to drive it whether I need to or not.Never driven it in anything that remotely resembles a performance car so I am drooling at the possibility.Let us know what you reckon on it in the T. Nothing worse than being rear-ended. (Happened to me by a LandCruiser)Although as WhiteTee said, glad you are all OK...Just hope you get the damage repaired soon, and your T will be as good as new.All the best mate, and enjoy your drive....I'm drooling at the thought of the Gillies.
