Mike, going back to your original question - I would definately pick the BF XRT with $$ for mods (unfortunately the FG shape is everywhere as a rental car - I wouldn't touch one now). The phoon is no faster in the BA/BF, and with the $$ up your sleeve you will leave a stock phoon for dead and have heaps of fun. (and as Worm said, the Auto is the wise choice if you want versatility and the faster car - but manual will always be more "fun", no question)

Fact is, its only until the FG F6 that there is a difference over the standard T. The other phoons you basically pay for a fancy body kit, fancy brakes and fancy name. That's why Ford couldn't get rid of them.......

Unfortunately your comments are incorrect, the FPV engine was a superior version up until BF2 XRT. This model did have no difference except boost pressure. Cheers

Impellor - Agree about the brakes mate, no question - far superior. But its a lot $ over standard model just for brakes - that's all the point I was making.

Difference between FPV and XR6T - 100nm. I know once there modified there very similar but stock the F6s are pretty damn quick.

Up until the BF2, as mentioned before, the XR6 had an inferior engine to the F6. In the BF2 XR, the engine was given the F6 valve springs and rods.

I believe it also has better suspension?

To say the F6 is an XR with a better bodykit and what-not, is stupid. The typhoon is a performance vehicle version of te XR and out of the factory, comes as a performance vehicle. It has more boost, better engine (until BF2), better springs, better brakes, better interior.

People have their own opinions about which is better for money, but facts are facts and you can't bend them.

- To the OP:

I'd get a BF Phoon with low kays if you can. That way you wont have to spend the $ later on decent brake upgrade, and it's still a load of fun while you're saving for engine work.
