Standard Exhaust - Max Power Achievable?

What boost was this tuned at to get this figure? Was it an auto or manual? Does the Cat/Dump combo add any additional noise?

it was an auto, I think boost with the stock cat back was around 16 or so and went up to 19-20 with the same tune.

There is probably a little more noise but not a lot

Kyle at 6Boost has a Tornado that produced 460kw with the stock exhaust. It has one of their dump pipes on it and hi flow cat.

that's the answer there(had 16psi then went to 19-20psi after the cat back was changed),power increased because of the 3-4psi boost increase.

Turn the boost down to 16psi again and the power would be the same as the stock exhaust(but less stress on the turbo and faster spoll up time)

Less back pressure the better for the turbo(bigger exhaust),more back pressure more stress on the turbo(stock exhaust)

If you could get the boost high enough,500kw+ could be had out of a stock exhaust,but it would be very restrictive with so much back pressure.

The ute in question had a 4" dump and 5" cat fitted and would only go 340 rwkw, it was an FG and I think FG systems are more restrictive than BA/F systems but have no concrete proof

aparently not the fg system looks like a pig but flows better than a ba/bf system

I made 420rwkw on 17psi with just a "hi flowed cat" the rest is 100% stock fg f6 exhaust and is as quiet as the day it came from fraud ...........except when its wot

plenty of others have done 400rwkw with this set up on b series to its just the cat that's the problem!!!!!!!!

I've got and several members here have seen the result of trying to push a standard catback system past it's limits, the mufflers are purple from the heat, looks like somebody applied an oxy to them, that was a 4" dump and 5" cat fitted.

definately any upgrade is an improvement even loosing the centre muffler will help but its doable for those who want the quietness

I chose this way just to see how far it would go and still it was the cooler letting me down but id dare say 2 mufflers and a std pipe size would of had its limit at this point too but the limit is there to be pushed and molested and if your after a quiet system that still flows keep it standard just loose the meowwwwwwww

If you recall Nizpro up until recently did not have their own exhaust option. In the early XR6 Turbo development 2004 days all of their packages came out with standard exhaust systems. The attached article from Autospeed gives the detail of how with Intercooler, plenum etc they achieve 395KW (must be at the flywheel)at 14PSI!.

In addition to a quiet exhaust - I would like to retain the factory idle quality. So again here is the objective:

I am starting a thread for all of us that want maximum power, with the least amount of exhaust noise. The ultimate street performance car!

I have a very nice and quiet BF F6 Typhoon 6 speed auto, about to start with the power up mods. Here is my issue:

'I want to keep that quiet sleeper, happy to change the Dump and Cat.'

Other Mods:

Intercooler - APS (connected to the standard Cross Over).

Injectors - 60lb Deka's

Turbo - Flapper valve and 15 Lbs Actuator

In tank pump changed and additional pump added.

Cold Air Intake - Factory Typhoon with K&N filter.

I have an APS exhaust sitting at home, this is my last option as I want to keep noise as close to standard as possible. I know if this is fitted with the above package, even with the standard Cross Over I can achieve 380RWK.

What is achievable with the standard exhaust with new Cat and Dump pipe? What power have you managed to a get?

If you have done this exhaust modification is it any loader or drooney compared to standard?

By the way Ratter - You are one of the few tuners that provides your experience regulary on this thread. This says a lot about you in terms of technical skills, but more importantly 'communication' skills.

Are you able to document a proposal that would achieve my requirements and probably most members requirements who are older than 21.

I totally understand where you are coming from. I to have a nice quiet BF F6 Auto and I like to keep it like that. So the only exhaust mods I done was change the cat. On cold starts, it slightly louder but once you warm it up, it quiets down. Its still like standard driving around town and on the highway its the same.

I'm thinking of going 4 inch dump and im sure this will be very similiar.
