He was adamant it was unnesecary. He assured me the days of metal fragments in new engines are long gone and there is no reason to have it done. Engines are built to much higher standards and tolerances than 15-20 years ago and oil filter these days are more than capable of filtering out anything that may be leftover from manufacture. He also looks after Merc Benz and Subaru and said all 3 manufacturers do not recommend it. l said that was probably because they are trying to keep running costs down to a minimum but he insisted it just isn't of any benefit these days.So whats everyone elses thought on this, will you have it done? Guest raoulc Guests Posted 25/01/03 09:53 PM Share Posted 25/01/03 09:53 PM I notice the same thing on the 3000k service. I agree with the service manager that change oil and filter was unnecessary. Their the experts and besides it wouldn't be free then because you would have paid for the oil and filter anyway.

But then l dont intend on keeping the car forever either l suppose.

I had an oil analysis done before my 3000km service and there was an alarming amount of metal content in the oil.
