Went to book our baby in for the free 3000km checkover with the intention of having the oil & filter changed also.

Spoke with the Service Manager about what needed doing and mentioned the oil change. He was adamant it was unnesecary. He assured me the days of metal fragments in new engines are long gone and there is no reason to have it done. Engines are built to much higher standards and tolerances than 15-20 years ago and oil filter these days are more than capable of filtering out anything that may be leftover from manufacture. He also looks after Merc Benz and Subaru and said all 3 manufacturers do not recommend it. l said that was probably because they are trying to keep running costs down to a minimum but he insisted it just isn't of any benefit these days.

So whats everyone elses thought on this, will you have it done?

I notice the same thing on the 3000k service. I agree with the service manager that change oil and filter was unnecessary. Their the experts and besides it wouldn't be free then because you would have paid for the oil and filter anyway.

Yep it wouldnt be free, l dont know but l would imagine it would be around $80 because of the synthetic oil.

l am still unsure about doing 15000km on a new engine without an oil change. But then l dont intend on keeping the car forever either l suppose.

Do it at 3,000 or earlier.

It's a new car! Simple as that.

BS it doesn't need an oil change until 15,000.

Should have seen how black the oil was after 2,500kms in our AU III VCT!!!!

well I'd be getting the oil changed at 3000km and changing to top quality synthetic oil (if it's not already used) then I would be changing it again at 10000km and then every 5000km after that (I'd do it at home and get ford can stick to their service schedule, so the books look normal), I believe for piece of mind it's worth...

Dave.

Yeah I'd also like to know what happened to the free 60,000km servicing they were handing out with AUII/III last I looked.

I'm about to get my 3000km service on my XR6T, we'll see what they say.

Save yourself a lot of trouble and get your oil changed.

I had an oil analysis done before my 3000km service and there was an alarming amount of metal content in the oil.
