Street Tuner Member 727 Member For: 22y 1m 26d Posted 27/01/03 07:10 AM Share Posted 27/01/03 07:10 AM I changed my oil and filter at 1000kms. I also did a 'dissection' of the oil filter (opened it up) and found a fair bit of metal in it. About as much as you would expect in any new engine. Be advised that at around 3000 - 5000kms your oil filter will be on bypass anyway, hence no more filtration till the first change. FYI I used Fuchs 15W-40 mineral oil. I would never use a synthetic in a less than 5000km engine such as this.

Then 10,000. I wouldn't use a synthetic until after that.Allow everything to bed it. But have the safety of a fresh filter each 5,000.
Guest LionHeart Guests Posted 27/01/03 09:12 PM Share Posted 27/01/03 09:12 PM I changed my oil @ 3000K.It was $75 per 5 litre container of Mobil 1The Turbo is a 7 litre vehicle so you need 2 containers... Atleast I have 3 litres left over ready for next service so I will only have to buy 1 there....But the car drove heaps better after this service.. Much tighter!!! :o

Sounds reasonable for me and plus have a receipt of the service from an actual Ford dealer.

I advised him to change to synthetic if he wanted to when the 15000 was done. I also advise changing trans and diff oils at the 15000km service. For the small outlay you have peace of mind that at least you have made every attempt to extend the life of those items to their max. It also doesn't hurt to change your coolant at this time and have the engine and radiator flushed.

The piston rings will not seat properly and the result is blowby in a new engine. I've been there and done that using Mobil 1 for a new engine rebuild. Lots of blowby. Next rebuild I put valvoline running in oil and even used this on the racetrack with a 500rwhp turbo street car. I changed the running in oil after about 8000 km to a good quality mineral oil then at about 40000km went to synthetic. The result is an engine which does not blowby. You can change the original oil and filter early with running in oil at say 3000km with the purpose of cleaning the engine (there will be a bit of crap collected in the new filter regardless of how well it is built plus particles will wear off surfaces mostly in the first 1000km anyway). I would personally just change the filter so it doesnt go on bypass. What ever you do dont go on synthetic or semi synthetic too early. You will regret it. Redhawk ....Time to lay this fairytale aside...... Donating Members 2,657 Member For: 21y 11m 9d Gender: Male Location: In the Ferry on the River Styx, not getting out just yet! Posted 11/04/03 10:04 AM Share Posted 11/04/03 10:04 AM vik351 I wouldn't put Slick 50 into the car until at least 30,000 km, although the economy increase claim is sus I know from personsal experience the teflon coating can help reducing wear and helps protect the motor if it runs too hot. Mine has just done 1000km and will be changing the oil and filter on the weekend.
Guest Turbo-6 Guests Posted 14/04/03 03:48 AM Share Posted 14/04/03 03:48 AM I took my XR6T for it's 3000km service last week, and I was strongly advised to get the oil and filter changed. When I came home, I noticed that Castrol GTX3 was used - is this the correct oil for this car?
