Hello All, I Only just got myself a BA MK1 XR6t,

Unfortunately its the 5 sp Manual

Now I really would like to know How much Power that box can handle...

Id love to give it a few more horses,

Plans are;

Twin 2 1/2 CatBack exhaust ( anyone recomend a good value for money brand)

I Want it noticable but not droney and annoying, Just a nice note with a bit more flow.

Vent to Atmo BOV ( recomend a value for money item)

Again I would like to hear it.. but not so loud that I have cops following me everywhere.

K and N Panel Filter

( or equivelant High Flow Brand )

Flash Tune With 2 or so more Pound of Boost.

(anyone recomend a place in South WA for that tune?)

Eventually Id also like to upgrade the brakes and get some coilovers so I can stick it on the track..

Would a aftermarket intercooler be necassary?

How many horses would I get with the bolt ons before the tune.. and after?

Also How many Horses do these actually have at the wheels stock?

And the biggest question of all.. Can the 5sp box handle that???!!!

Im hoping for 300 at the wheels, Is that a reasonable goal?

Thanks for your help everyone.. I appreciate it.

Dave

300hp @ the wheels? Or kw?

If you want 300kw @ the wheels, then you'll need to upgrade to a 6 speed...

Some 5 speeds have died with 250rwkw... They clutch will die around there too...

Save your money... Dont mod it... Get a 6 speed... Then mod.

You should have researched BEFORE you bought.

They are about 200rwkw standard.

I did ALOT of research before I bought it.. I bought the 5 sped for numerous reasons.. it was cheaper.. the only one available in our town with a decent running history AND I thought it would be wise to get the 5 sp to resist give it 500 horse power then killing myself from temptation of always wanting to plant the foot..

And I was after 300 horse power at the wheels.

The reason I asked how much it had stock I was hoping someone could post a dyno chart.. Because I have seen so many different figures being splurted around..

Just wanted to know if I stuck it on the dyno now, plus or minus 5 hp what would I be looking at?

Thanks all

stock they will vary between 180 rwkw( 241 HP ) and 200 rwkw ( 268 HP).

As said , if you up the power budget for a 6 speed conversion as it is a more than a fair bet the T5 will lunch itself

Well you didnt do enough research sorry to say. The 5 speed is a piece of sh*t and will bust even with very minimal mods even no mods at all. Like Worm has suggested, save your money and get a 6 speed conversion. Take it from someone who has had a 5 speed blow up on them its not a cheap fix. Mine at the time cost me 8k. Im sure it is cheaper these days but still a fair bit.

Dont think though that you have bought a piece of junk, its still a great car and will serve you well but dont have to much confidence in that 5 speed or it will cost you plenty.

Your research should have told you the 5spd will die at stock power levels let alone mods for 300+rwhp. Keep your eyes open for a cheap 2nd hand T56,

and do the conversion before the 5 spd dies so you can recover "some" money from it!

Thanks for the replies guys, I was thinking that if I kept the stock clutch and get 300wheel hp.. the clutch would slip before the box dies?

But anyway roughly how much do the t56s go for these days? ive never actually been able to find one for sale.

Also does it bolt straight onto the belhousing , samee clutch arangement, same tailshaft etc?

So basically I cant even put an exhuast on there without risk of it munching itself?

Thanks again

Mate I have an 04 Ba 4spd XR6T and all I did to it was Cold air intake Box and Tune , it now has 310hp at the wheels or 235 rwkw , ... standard it had somewhere around 190 rwkw , the mods cost me only $1500 and it really made a difference .. best bang for buck you can get if im not mistaken .

Mate look at my sig. I have had that for about 7 years/150,000km without any dramas. Although I do drive it with respect and have changed the gearbox fluid to Transmax Z every 50,000km.
