Are there any tricks to finding the leak?

Not sure what brand is in the clutch at the moment, will any DOT4 do?

Im just thinking of brake system and when your pads are worn you can have the fluid level down because of that and if you top it up then get new pads the excess fluid will come back out the cylinder in the engine bay and get on parts and paint which aint good.
