Hey guys,

Tonight I got my first ever problem from my fg xr6 turbo ute, was just driving along and then out of nowhere I hear this really loud tumbling noise coming from the gearbox. It drives fine in every single gear but this noise just gets louder the faster I go and it goes away when I come to a complete stop..

Any ideas? The car has only got 24,000kms and is under warranty..

Does it happen at low rpm or at any rpm?

In gear and out of gear?

In gear, any rpm, gets louder the faster I go, even does it in reverse. When I completely stop it goes away

Is the noise still there if you take it out of gear at speed?

If you can get under the car, take a look at the rubber donut that connects the tailshaft to the gearbox - there is 6 or 8 bolts (can't remember) and if the come loose you will hear this rattle, take a look sooner rather than later, because if that whole thing comes loose the tailshaft will try and say hello to you in the cabin!

Tighten them! haha - use some loctite on the nuts too

Hopefully its an easy fix for you, but without actually hearing the noise its hard to diagnose!

Well that's good I suppose...Not too sure what else it could be mate, but try not to drive it much and get it to a dealer or mechanic just to be safe - might turn out to be something silly like wire caught around the tailshaft
