OK guys, I think my turbo is stuffed. I was driving along and heard a funny grinding noise on boost. I have checked the turbo and there is no play up or down nor in and out but if I spin the turbo you can hear the bearings grind. So what are my options?

Do I purchase a new turbo?

Get mine rebuilt?

How much am I looking at?

I live in Melbourne so who would you recommend to do the rebuild?

Can I take the turbo off the car and still drive it?

Are there any step by step instructions on how to remove the turbo?

Thanks guys.

Will this fit?

You shouldn't try to drive your car without the turbo and it would take the manufacture of an exhaust dump modification to be close to successful. I'd suggest removing it and getting it rebuilt by a reputable company. I'm not sure who is the suggested places in Vic but in NSW it's GCG or MTQ in Sydney. The cost will vary depending on what is damaged and what needs to be done. I've seen quotes for between $800 and $1700.

The turbo you have found on ebay looks to need an external wastegate so no it's not suitable to bolt straight in.

I'd look to replace your oil feed line also with an inline Earls filter or the like.

I'm having mine rebuilt. All new feed line without filter. Would rather "dirty" oil in bearing than none at all. around $2g. 2 day job. Nizpro Bayswater.

make sure you ring around and get lots qoutes as prices can vary alot, as with all automotive feilds. and take Azz's advice and make sure you piss off the standard oil line filter....
