Hey guys.

So about to pick up a 06 ( September build ) bf turbo. Its a 6 speed with 110 on the clock. Car is in great nick. Rotors do need replacing witch is no problem. But I want to know will drilled slotted be a bit of over kill for the front? Or should I just go with slotted all round with bendix ultimate pads? or would CT's do it?

Also I have herd with the BF's you cant just put any cold air intake on it with out the engine light coming on is this true? I have a BMC air filter with a hyper flow CAI. That I would be taking out of my XT and swapping ( as I am selling the XT )

Also exhausts? I was told if you want to do the whole exhaust dump to rear you have to get a tune over wise its to much? Where should I start with the exhaust? Cat? Cat back? and what is the best cat back? I have found twin 2.5" exhaust and then single 3" Ill be doing all the work my self.

And lastly for now. Best oil? As it needs a service.

Cheers guys. Looking forward to becoming a good member of your forum :)

Howdy Lazy,

Firstly, welcome to the forums :spoton:

For rotors, a heap of T owners go with the DBA 4000's which I believe are only slotted (Not drilled) From what I hear they sound like a really good balance of price and performance. I'd definitely put some reasonable pads on though - Bendix are a good pad (But damn they are dusty...)

If you are adjusting the air-intake, I'm pretty sure you need a custom tune as the car is getting more air-flow than over stock. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong though, but I haven't heard of anyone changing an intake only without a tune...

Exhausts will definitely result in you needing a retune. There's not much you can do without a tune as it messes with boost levels, 02 levels etc Best bet is to do all of your mods at once and get it tuned by a known and proven tuner.

You can get away with just a high flow cat, or you can go all the way with the exhaust from the turbo back. Depends on the power you want, the note you want and how much money you have... Think a cat is $350-$400ish, where a full exhaust will be $2,000+ depending again on brand, size, stainless/mild steel etc.

Cat backs don't give any real performance gain as you will get the most benefit from the dump/cat. They are mainly for sound/look.

Best oil? Just use a good quality one like Nulon, Royal purple etc. (I think a good castrol/fuchs would also be ok) Just remember to use a good oil that is changed regularly - A fairly thin oil is usually what is recommended - 0w/5w I'd say.

Hope that has helped a little bit mate,

Dan

Dont go drilled - they crack. Stay with the 4000's or the 5000's...

The air intake - no need for a tune as the cat is the limiting factor and wont allow it to overboost.

Exhaust - Start with removing the middle muffler and replacing the cat - this will require a retune.

Otherwise go with a 4" dump, hi-flow cat, remove the middle muffler/whole new twin 2.5" system - this will require a retune.

The general idea is the cat is the limiting factor - you arent going to see a much of a difference in power until this restriction is removed.

Best to do injectors at the same time to get the most out of your tune and save you going back again.

For oil - there was a huge debate - do not go anything lower than a 10w for Aus temperatures and anything over 40 is too thick unless you are running a high performance motor/high temperature.

The Nulon Fully synthetic has the best properties for oil and comes in at a very decent price.

No some people are just way to cautious. Anything intake still retaining the crossover will be fine. Ie bluepower etc don't need a retune. Doing a catback won't require a tune. But it will give sfa gains.

Your filter etc will not cause any lights to come on. Changing the cat, or doing a full exhaust will.

If your looking at mods, cat should go with the first group of mods as it is a big restriction, the rest of the stock exhaust is good for low 300s.

atm I've got a plazmaman cooler with new hot side and cold side piping and a 4" air box and have been running that without a tune for the past month with no dramams what so ever. Most will say to keep it off boost and take it easy, Which I have been doing it for most of the time, but there has been a few ocassions where I have given it abit of a hard time. Still runs fine, no odd noises or any boost problems etc

car is getting tuned soon aswell

So what other brands of pads are there? I do hate how dusty my bendix's are at the moment.

Cheers for that man. As long as I dont get that stupid check engine light ill be happy haha. So can I change the cat to a 100 cell or 200 cell with out the engine light coming on? If I leave the cat back stock. Any cats recommended? Any cats I can buy and just bolt on my self? So I can avoide paying someone to do welding. I do like to do as many things as I can my self. Also I think I will just get the center muffler removed for now then if the cat back is good up to the 300 mark. Will do the muffler and cat make the check engine light come on?
