Hey guys,

Have really been thinking of late about what's going to happen with my car probably at the start of next year. I believe it will be fully paid off by then so I will own it outright.

My dilemma is that I'm not sure whether or not to keep the car and mod it, or to sell it for either a BFII T or stretch a little more to a FG T or a BFII Phoon (Would be more inclined to get the 6 speed ZF gearbox). I'm tossing up the price adjustment as my car will probably only be worth $13K trade in - lucky to get $15-$16 for the car privately.

The car is a 2004 BA XR6T 4 speed auto, with a few minor mods making 240 at the treads. Just ticked over 95,000Km's and I've owned it since 55,000Km's.

Overall I don't want a drag car. I want it to be really streetable but also have a bit of bite. I guess as an estimate I'd be chasing about 300rwkw+. Want the potential for it to run 11's and from what I've seen I think 350rwkw could be a well rounded figure.

When I look at the mods, it's easy to see that I'm going to have to throw some serious coin at the car to get where I want to...

Is it worth selling the car and buying another which is stronger and more easily modded? I've seen a few nice BFII T's for around $25K which is more than reasonable but I'm not sure if it's worth the change-over.

I know what power level I want but I dunno about the car. Say money isn't really an option. I can see three choices - I can do the FG/Phoon with a few small mods, the BF with more substantial mods or the BA with the most mods...

Any advice would be great. Have you sold a modded car and bought a later model one either with similar mods/no mods - Were you happy?

I know it's a bit of a stupid question but I'd appreciate some advice or insight from the other forum members. I think we've all had to contemplate something like this at one point or another.

Thanks in advance fellas,

Dan

sell up and just grab a fg xr6t. By start of next year you will prob find some modded for 26-29k with 350rwkw. Already seen one posted here few days ago modded and only 32500 (which im sure you can bargain down more). Else go a bf II (make sure motor is built AFTER 06/06).

All bf2s were built after 06/06.

And depends if you want to buy a modded car or mod one you already know well. You could sell yours and step into an 11sec BA cheaply enough, but still might be ending up with someone elses headache.

Thanks guys,

Cheers *Beep*, I think that is sounding like a really good option to go for an FG... Just gotta find one!

Thanks for the reply Henz - The last thing I want is someone else's thrashed and abused car... I think I'd rather buy a stocker and add to it myself.

Thanks Dags :spoton: But trade it in for what?

I guess the choice would be a BF II Phoon or an FG XR6T. (The supercharged GS also looks like a cracker too...)

I've read through the FG XR6T Vs. BF II Phoon threads and the general consensus is in favour of the FG. I know it's a big step up from an early BA to a later model BF and I'm assuming it's another big step up to an FG.

I find it hard to see why the FG beats the FPV - It has the bigger turbo, better brakes, it's an FPV etc. Won't the FG T's just turn into what the BA's are today? But the ride/drivetrain and the overall combo must just be a winner :buttrock:

Well thanks for the replies guys - looking forward to seeing what some others have to say,

Dan

Serious coin? No way mate 5k will get an FG Into the 11's probably even less if you did your homework.

And It's weird I use to think the same regarding the FG V's the BF F6 debate but after driving both a few times and back to back it feels like the F6 takes days to spool up, the FG feels so much quicker and refined. The F6's has way better brakes and bigger turbo but that's about it, also a very dated interior/exterior. I'm glade I got the FG over a BF F6 in the end. I would of regretted buying the F6.

Oh Dillz, I meant throwing serious coin at the BA - Not the FG :spoton:

I'll have a look into everything a little more then - Thanks for the advice guys!

I guess as an early mod idea from the stock FG base;

Rapid/Plazmaman/PW IC and piping

Injectors

Custom tune and box

Transmission cooler

Fuel pump

Exhaust - Full/cat depending on finances :)

With a cat and not a full exhaust, I'd say that should total about $5K

The issue with this is - That should net 300ish rwkw right? Will the turbo be the limiting factor here? I don't want it running on it's absolute max...

And the 6 speed ZF - Will that have a fairly normal life expectancy with a good cooler and a proper tune? And will the valve springs need replacing?

Thanks guys, look forward to the replies,

Dan

I've always leaned towards getting the latest model possible, especially if warranty is an issue for you before modification commences.

Only my opinion, but go the FG bud.
