On a positive note Dags I changed from NAB to WBC 15 years ago and wouldn't change to another of the big 4 for quids.

Their customer service is second to none IMO, particularly at branch level.

Make sure you have all relevant documentation.

Just don't go at lunch time as everyone and their Dog Spot will be there.

It could actually be anyone though that you supposedly owe the money, Westpac (and all the banks) do allot of debt factoring where they essentially buy the debt at a discounted amount then engage the heavies to recover it.

So I guess the key is to find out who the debt was actually incurred with and why you can't remember. Engaged any hookers or anything recently?

But yeah hopefully just a case of mistaken identity but what a pain in the arse.

Westpac have it as somebody who lived in Gippsland/Phillip Island/Terigal....they send me back to Credit Corp. Get through to the 'customer relationship manager' who's name is on the letter give her my date of birth and she say's it's a similar birth date ...I tell her I have never lived in any of the locations mentioned above and she say's OK.

Problem solved.....

...apart from the fact you all should be worried there is another me out there somewhere!!

In my line of work I see this frequently... My advice to you would also be to goto www.mycreditfile.com.au and pay the 30 odd bucks to get a copy of your VEDA credit file and see if it all marries up to what you have applied for in the past few years... It is happening more and more frequently to people because of a stupid cross referncing system that VEDA uses and it is a pain in the arse to sort it out and clear your name sometimes... Run the search on yourself, see what you get it might unearth some nasty surprises and you can stamp them out before they become a serious issue!
