My revs hang between gear changes. Not a huge amount but enough that it matches the revs well when shifting thus making the shift smoother. I figured this was normal...

Yep. Most late model cars are like this. With a manual, it allows you to crawl along in first gear smoothly. And is great for shift'n up when go'n hard in high revs

Mine has done the same since new, it's a real bonus on the track with a little quicker gearshifts (less lag). Driving around the city you can adjust your change method a little and use it to your advantage.

interesting about people saying their car hold revs through gear changes and others say it doesnt.

Are we all talking about the same thing? The only thing I can think that makes a manual hold revs through gear changes is the pure inertia of the crank when load from the gearbox is gone, revs may hold for a poofteenth of a second. auto's may not do this because the engine is never not under load during gear changes.

After reading this yesterday I paid close attention to my revs on the way to work this morning, I didnt notice any rev holding even for a second during changes, only when I boosted it from 0-80 I saw the needle sit still for maybe 2/10ths of a second when changing from 1st to 2nd. I just put this down to the timing of my feet from pushing the clutch in to taking my foot off the accelerator.

on the track none of this hinders me or helps me, I dont take my foot off the accelerator down the quarter so would have no idea if the revs hang or not :roflmbo:

inertia v compression/friction will determine how fast the revs drop(plus any parameters associated with idle control/airflow in the tune), but my understanding of the OP's post is the revs are holding @ say 2k on gear change and not dropping. This would indicate an issue obviously

Yea have to agree with hiddeous and rusty about the OP having an actual issue. Dont get me wrong the manuals do seem to hang for a split second on gear changes which is great but as hiddeous stated he said it stays at 2k and around a carpark at 1500-1750 with no throttle.

Mine will crawl just above idle in car parks and hangs on the changes for a moment but if you dont change and just neutral it will go to idle.

Sounds like the pedal and the TB arent keeping in sync almost like they are talking intermintetly (spelling?)

just read my post and if I sounded arrogant hiddeous im sorry :pleasantry:

the thing with the t/b is that its always open a tad. when u boost the sh*t out of it then change gear, it actually goes back on the spring and closes fully. if u are only changing on light load, its gonna hang coz there is not enough pressure to push it shut. that's what I think and my understaning anyway.

No worries on the post Mic, Didnt take it that way. Hate too poke holes in your theory but the throttle blade is driven open and closed by the motor. It doesnt rely on the spring too close it. The spring is more a secondary saftey device.
