While trolling the Turbo Territory threads, I have noticed a number of people asking where to get there exhaust debunged.

You can easily do it yourself at home!

I wrote this and posted it on another forum about 6 months ago - hope it's ok to share here..

DIY - No grinder or welder required version

Tools required:

1/2" Socket/Spanner

9/16" Socket/Spanner

1m of Re-Bar or similar

A Hammer

A Jack (if you can't quite slide under the Territory like me. raisedeyebrow.gif )

*Refer to diagram below for reference numbering, I have highlighted the section of the exhaust that needs to be removed from the vehicle.

Step 1.

Jack up Drivers side of the vehicle enough to get under - use a jack stand or similar to stabilise it while your underneath.

Step 2.

Undo the 2 x 9/16" nuts connecting the exhaust section closest to the differential. (refer 8)

Step 3.

Undo the 3 x 1/2" bolts connecting the twin pipes from the front section of the exhaust. (refer 5)

Step 4.

Disconnecting the rubber exhaust hanger (refer 9) will enable you to completely remove the section of exhaust from the vehicle.

Be sure to remove the metal gaskets so they don't get damaged during the bung removal. (refer 4 & 7)

Step 5.

Stand the exhaust up vertical (rest the twin pipe end on some wood or something to avoid any possible damage) so you have the single 3" opening at the top.

Looking through the muffler you will see the bung in the end of the muffler in one of the twin pipes.

Stick the Re-Bar down through the muffler until it reaches the bung then hit the other end of the Re-Bar with a hammer it dislodges the bung.

Once it dislodges it may simply fall straight through or even rotate in its location.

A couple of well positioned hits with the Re-Bar will deform the bung enough for it to simply fall through the end of the twin pipe.

Step 6.

Follow steps 1-4 in reverse.!

This is very easy to do and shouldn't take more than 30-60 minutes start to finish.

I was not the pioneer of removing the bung this way, and many have used this method without an issue

Thanks heaps Simon,I used this technique today,

My bung got stuck around the second bend so I used a peice of poly water pipe to convince it to come out.

Sounds better goes better,

Cheers Bro

Hey Peeps,

Sorry for firing up an old thread, I'm curious to understand why it was sealed in the first place? Did someone in upper management come down and say it was too loud? Why bung it up, why was it engineered that way and why didnt they go twins all the way? Sometimes the engineers @ Ford are on crack!

Also would there be any advantages to reset the ECU once this was debungged? Whats the best method to reset the ECU in a TTG?

Does anyone know how much of a difference it made in terms of power, would be keen to know before and after including noise level

Cheers

Kosti

Ford do allot of stupid things, that's the only answer I got..

I'd assume it would work similar to removing the center muffler on a falcon, doesn't need an ECU reset and doesn't really gain any power untuned. More of a noise thing.
