I have heard you can actually cause damage by opening the butterfly with your hand, and that it's best to either get a friend to actually depress the accelarator pedal, or disconnect the battery...can anyone confirm this?...

NO that is un true because the throttle is electronic and will only open when car is turned on if car is off and you put the accelerator down the butterfly will not open

Are you sure? Mine does.

Either way it doesn't matter if you move the butterfly by hand, just make sure the keys off, otherwise you will be forcing the butterfly to move against the motor.

I use a toothbrush to scrub the inside

LOL that's in the italian blood...passed down in generations when the old man would scrub his drive way with a tooth brush and then hose it for 3 hours.

love it....

Cheers Sh00t,

Awesome little write-up. There has been a ton of threads recently regarding this, so nice work!

With the TPS/Cam phasing reset - I have read replies supporting both sides so I'm not really sure what it means.

I heard the car should not start with foot to the floor while cranking - My car still starts! What does that mean? Is there something wrong?

Cheers guys, hopefully this gets cleared up :spoton:

Dan

Try turning key to on position then foot flat then crank it over If I remember right otherwise mine would start too.

Also how does this little bit of oil affect anything ????????? Most cars I have owned have had oily TB and never had problems

Might prevent it from opening/closing properly due to dirt in the oil? They come clean so I suppose they should stay clean (bought myself some Nulon Throttle body cleaner today from SC, will give it a shot this week when I can)

are the syptoms of a dirty throttle body and faulty TPS the same?

I am have the same problems: rough idle at random times, car jolts when reversing on cold start up etc...
