No worries HSV, so many people forget it will affect the whole range (6, 6T, 8 and SC8) if they do pull the trigger.....

Maybe bring the new Boss Mustang here instead at a good price - call that the XR and we might be pleasantly surprised!! :yahoo: (0% chance of that happening unfortunately...)

It's bizarre, everyone from Toyota to Subaru to Audi and Mercedes and even Alfa is developing brand new global RWD platforms in order to provide a great driving experience.

Fun and driving desirability is where the unit margin is...

Ford is intent on bringing out the Lardonator AWD Taurus platform. Sure its' fast, but did anyone, ever, anywhere, dream of owning this car? No.

4WD/AWD once imparted a certain degree of stability to a chassis. This was an invaluable safety aid in marginal road conditions in its day.

Today times have changed and much higher degrees of stability and safety are imparted to RWD and FWD platforms via stability and agility controls.

In addition, modern road tyres now impart levels of grip and linearity that were previously only available from specialist track tyres. What is more impressive is that the modern road tyres can also pull these levels of grip and predictability in wet conditions! 4WD/AWD are no longer required to provide traction.

4WD/AWD in most road conditions does nothing more than add mass, rotational inertia and friction. That is the opposite of what is required today.

Very interesting... some good points.Id like to see 4wd/AWD as an option. On the GTR skylines (4WD) you can add a switch which changes it to the same as the standard GT (RWD). People want choice.

Personally the car looks awesome but as CBXRT said ... at what cost? how many models will we loose in the process.

The only reason you can do that on the GTR is its got an electronic diff so the switch just turns the bugger off. Certain subarus are the same but will make themselves front wheel drive instead of rear, and the stis with dccd can be rear only.

how often do concept cars look like production cars... always cost cutting and changes to meet regulations.

fg series 1 will be 3 years old before the update comes. 3 years before fg2 requires a replacement?

Aiboart, surely you can't be serious!

Do you think the engineers of Lambos, Porsches, GTRs, R8s, EVO/STIs etc etc use AWD purely to increase the weight of their cars and disadvantage them as you suggest? :shocked:

If the next XR was AWD it would be a very positive move in my opinion.....
