Ok so I've read around about turbo'ing an xt. but how about supercharging one? what's needed to be done to put a supercharger in the xt? was the tailshaft changed? does it need to be? do I need a new trans? I have a 4sp

also about the standard xt transmission, if I wanted to upgrade it to a 5sp or 6sp auto I think it's called a ZF trans? what would I need to do?

In one of the posts in the n/a forum, I read a guy charged his n/a spent a sh*t load and it only made 220rwkw's or around that.. If you have the money to charge your engine and money for a tranny swap, then surely you can afford to sell your xt and buy a T?

There are Superchargers and then there are superchargers. Some are no more than a belt driven turbo. All will tax power before they make it. It's not the go for the 6, truly.

They cost a fortune, try about seven thou for one. And yep no more power or less than a turbo. Just NOS the farker.

A ZF is a lot more than just a bolt on job as well. Even the 5 speed auto will require a new ECU. and wiring.

Get a close as you can with the majors on the base car and go from there. ie ZF, turbo so forth. It will save you lots of time and angst.

You might end up with a car no one will insure. Or the premiums per annum will be more than it's worth.

hmmm, I think truthfully if your asking these questions its probably not the project for you, its not very easy to A.cheaply B.reliably and C. Quickly, supercharge or turbocharge a naturally aspirated engine especially if the factory offers one complete in a car, and certainly not worth it just to be "different"

But mate if your keen on it and committed then it would be awesome and something new but id suggest against it. :beerchug:

If your not worried about insurance and everything, I reckon go for it. The kits through Capa are about 4.5k, then add 1500 to tune it properly and you'll have a Toey enough Xt. When you add the price of cams, fitting, tuning etc you'll come close to spending the same amount, have less power and a pig on idle. Although it sound good and have plenty up high.

Capa rates there intercooled kit at 345 which would be high 200s atw, which is plenty for a stock motor.

Or you could bolt on the gear off a turbo, really not that expensive. Someone was selling nearly everything to do it on here for 1500. Add tuning, labour, and a gorilla for any extra parts you need and it's good bang for buck too.

If you don't wanna do all that work, a full exhaust, underdrives, cai, and 4.11s gets them going well too.
