Hey guys,

Just another quick update. Drove the car around for about 2 hours today - to and from uni; In 38 degrees I might add.

Seemed fine even with the air-con on. Was just really friggin hot... Poor car :(

But happy to report all seems well!

dedogman,

Is your car an auto or a manual? I have a 2004 BA 4 speed auto and mine has started doing this as well...

It does this on and off, and I was told it was the custom tune. However, it hasn't always done this - It is worse when its hot. My father in laws 2004 XT is having the same issue as well and his is stock... In all honesty it is starting to give me the sh*ts.

As I brake to a stop, at the bottom of first gear it just wants to bottom out - is that what yours is doing too?

Might look at doing the throttle body and the fuel filter then. At least if they don't work it may be the 02 sensor or the computer...

Cheers mate, let us know how you go and I'll do the same :spoton:

Dan

Okay...throttle body done...no change.

Fuel filter done..no change.

Looks like I am off to Fraud now so they can extract some more from me....pissed off bad ...as soon as the car is hot, it wants to stall as soon as you pull to a stop! Took it back to the repairer but of course, found nothing even when they took it for a test run. Well I took it up the F3 today and as soon a I got back on Pennant Hills Road and traffic lights, the mongrel of a thing stared playing up! They( the mechanics) must think I make this stuff up! Sorry to anyone on PHR this arvo...it stalled 6 times...I am not happy.

MIght be the throtle body its self!

I'm going to try a new on in my FG tomorrow I'm currently having the same probs and I've done all of the above.

My tuner told me that a few weeks ago they had an FG with the same prob did a throtle body exchange and bingo... all the stalling probs and flat spots GONE!

Well Dedogman,

As bad as it is that it didn't fix the issue, at least you've ruled some more things out. As you well know, it's a very hard issue to diagnose.

TB, air filter and Fuel filter done and not fixed - Is it any better though or no good at all still? Did you try the fuel system cleaner? Did you try to reset the cam phasing or whatever? (Foot to floor and crank car over for about 10 seconds?)

(Don't want to sound like an a@@hole, but did you give the TB and really good clean? Did you wedge the butterfly open with a rag and wipe off the deposits and excess? I did it once and gave it a really piss poor clean coz I didn't know what I was doing and didn't want to do any damage - it didn't do anything either... :crybaby: )

As I mentioned before, look into;

Fouled plugs, (About $100) But you say you have new plugs?

Fuel system issues - Depends on the problem (Could be a fuel pump?)

Coil pack failure - Ford can diagnose and single out a single faulty pack. I think it's about $70 for the coil.

a failed 02 sensor - Once again Ford/tuner - shouldn't be too exxy...

If that fails, a bad tune or computer/timing issues.

Is the car modded or tuned? Is it doing anything else bad - like running hotter or sluggish?

We'll help you fix this mate - it is a really odd as it is such a spontaneous issue.

Let us know how it goes,

Dan

EDIT: ^ Yep - May be the actual TB itself...
