your throttle body needs a clean out! or fuel filter, or your computer is cutting revs somehow... I had a similar problem, turned out to be all the muck in the throttle body! now she runs fine :D

dedogman,

Is your car an auto or a manual? I have a 2004 BA 4 speed auto and mine has started doing this as well...

It does this on and off, and I was told it was the custom tune. However, it hasn't always done this - It is worse when its hot. My father in laws 2004 XT is having the same issue as well and his is stock... In all honesty it is starting to give me the sh*ts.

As I brake to a stop, at the bottom of first gear it just wants to bottom out - is that what yours is doing too?

Might look at doing the throttle body and the fuel filter then. At least if they don't work it may be the 02 sensor or the computer...

Cheers mate, let us know how you go and I'll do the same :spoton:

NVT...mate, yours must be the litter brother to mine! Exactly the same...when it gets hot it does it more...of course when you take it to the mechanic he takes it for a run, looks at you like you are some crazy guy! I will do what is listed and see how we go...it was only tuned and serviced last week and they said it was flying....it is until you get into stop start Parramatta Rd traffic in peak hour. Mine is an auto mate.

Hey guys,

Good news! I did a bunch of easy fixes today - Thought I'd start at the cheap and easy options first.

This is what I did today;

Removed and cleaned Air filter

Disconnected battery for 1 1/2 hours

Removed X-over and cleaned inside of pipes (Just with air)

Tightened all hose fittings and tightened the turbo bolts that I could reach with what I had off the car at the time

Cleaned the throttle body with some carby/throttle cleaner really well

Put in one bottle of fuel system cleaner - supposed to clean out entire system and injectors

I spent $40 on additives, carby cleaner and a few other things. Took me about 1 and a half hours.

The car no longer has a rough idle and starts easier. The needle on the rev gauge now doesn't jump about and it's just so much better to drive... Doesn't surge or shudder either.

I'm no mechanic but it was really easy to do these small fixes. I spent about 3 hours today looking at what else it could be. Let me know if I can help with anything :spoton:

Here's some other important things to note. If I was you I'd try what I did first.

(I read about a method that resets cam phasing (or something like that) You turn off the car and try to restart it with your foot to the floor on the accelerator. It should not start (even though mine did...:S) and the engine will just keep turning over. Apparently you do this for 10 seconds then turn the car off. Then restart as normal. Anyone know about this?)

If that doesn't help it could be;

Fouled plugs,

Injection issues

Coil pack failure

a failed 02 sensor

Also consider the possibility of a fouled fuel filter.

If that fails, a bad tune or computer/timing issues.:

I haven't seen how it goes in the heat yet, but it's 100% on what it was. I'm not sure if it's just me expecting the car to flatline at the lights, but there's only very small rev drops now, but as I said I think it's just me!

I hope for you mate that it's just an easy fix :drinks:

Let me know how it turns out for you,

Dan
