Hi Fellas

I've just bought a FG xr6t, have read through the xr6t starters thread and found the mod scene quite intriguing.

my since car still has 2.5 years of warranty left and am now posed with a few questions:

1) should I break my warranty and go ahead with tunes and modifications?

2) wait til my warranty has run out and then go with tunes and mods?

3) leave completely stock, save my money and in 6-10 years time see what Ford has to offer then?

I'm hoping with this post to get an idea of the MAIN why the reasons people modify or keep their Fords stock? if other fans and members would write of their reasons that'd be hugely appreciated.

do u guys race them (circuit or drag), use everyday or both?

further information about whether its a pain in the arse to modify in regards insurance cover, running costs and whether its worth the effort would be awesome if anyone has the time to write

(As it is really obvious that I'm a newb at this... after all I came from a small sh*tty mazda to this, I hope I have not posted a new topic out of line)

Thanks in Advance

Everytime you drive a well modified Tyou will know it was worth the $$.

Mines a daily as well as getting taken to the Drag strip regularly. The strip is an awesome rush and gets pretty addictive. For now im happy with my time, but I have plans of goingout and bettering it with more practice. Be careful though people start spending thousands chasing tenths of a second.

As for warranty, that's your choice. Ild be getting it tuned asap, as Ford warranty are a pain in the ass to deal with anyway most of the time, butthen if something does go wrong its good to have. Bit of catch22.

I wouldnt wait 6-10 years though. I have trouble keeping a car stock for 6months (actually I never have). In 6 years youllhear about something coming in another 6years, and so on.

But why do we modify them? A drive in a 300rwkw+ car will answer that for you.

my t saw 320rwkw and only had 1200 k's on the clock, never had the intention of keeping warranty as I knew I was going to modify it. like the other guys have said go for a ride it a modded t and it'll make your mind up quickly. icon_ford.gif

Thanks for the responses. Yes, I've had little to no exposure to anything performance-wise, and even less with modifcations/drags/circuit racing. A bloke has got to start somewhere right? :D

I had wondered if there were others like me trawling through the internets on the verge of plunging into the world of RWKW, drags and circuits

How easy is it to get into Drags and track racing(I'm assuming track days are the go here)? is it a case of just rocking up with a helmet and go for your life?

it also seems very few keep their T's stock then?

A drag day is as easy as showing up in long sleeves & pants with a helmet. Beginner track days are similar bit would do more damage to the car IMO. but you could track a stock one to improve your driving and try keep warranty. Drag racing a stock car is slot of fun too once you get over the initial nerves.

once youve tasted a car with 300 plus kw, you will just want 350 then 400 then the skies the limit

power is more addictive then smoking and will cost you just as much

but you wont regret it

It's choice you should think about. I did tune mine but waited 3,000k. I figured that by time if she had any major probs they'd surface. Ultimately, I decided that waiting post warranty mean't I'd lose that time enjoying the car making good power. I do turn 'em over too so again, didn't want to wait. Not exactly puss standard, but another 40+ kw on top and the same cruise economy is hard to resist. However, a lot cross the line IMO and root new cars by going too far. Fair enough if it's and old B series - they're worth nothing :roflmbo: . Think about what you really want and if you do start modding, don't get caught up in the dyno wank fest. Take it to a good tuner like Pitlane that know their sh*t and tailor cars to suit individual needs. Cheers, Bomber.

well I immediately bought the turbo as soon as I test drove it instead of the N/A one... so u can say that I'm probably well on the way to more KWs and beyond

there doesn't appear to be a hint of defence for keeping it stock. Looks like this will become a landslide victory to the mod team.

this will still have to be my everyday car, so I can't go completely insane on it... I'm hoping to get it all done reliably through one of the site sponsor/advertiser whom I've heard very good things about. I better start saving them pennies

and as far as racing is concerned... I think I'll sh*t myself a number of times before getting the hang of it, but it all sounds like GREAT fun!
