Hi all, I purchased my g6et new in september 2010 and was just wanting to know how other owners have found the wear rate of the leather seats, the car only gets used on weekends and is garaged through the week, has only travelled about 2500kms and ive found the seats to be creasing/wearing quite rapidly, has any one else noticed this?

yeah, got mine new dec09. done 50k since then.noticed it creasing at 20k on drivers seat base right hand bolster.sponge is also collapsing/flattening much more than the left side bolster.the leather and sponge they use on australian cars is crap.been thinking to complain to ford? my ba mk11 xr was the same,im not even a fat bastard at 85kg , youd think they would test leather and sponge combos used .

That's why I didn't get leather on my FG. Had it on the AUII and BAII. To be honest leather is overrated IMO. I have found cloth to be better in Summer and winter, so what's the attraction? I think I'd only get it if I had young kids - for ease of cleaning - that's about it. Haven't regretted it one bit and put the money into something else. I keep my cars for 4 years. The AU11 was fairly creased when I sold it. The BA!! was just "OK"? It certainly does depend on the seat design and how big your bum is.

You really need to supply some photograhs (taken without flash) so we can see the situation.

Your leather may be faulty.

A well maintained leather seat will show no wear whatsoever at 100K km +++.

Creasing however has a lot to do with how you enter and exit the car: some people make it a habbit to sit on the edge of the side bolsters.

Mine's creased below the headrest on all seats and I don't even think the backseat has been used more than 10 times. If they used actual leather instead of the piece of donkeys arse used for my car this probably wouldn't happen.

Have had my 3 series BMW for 4 years now and it has no sign of wear at all.

I actually said p I g s arse but it changes it to cops. WTF

I found with my BF XR6t the rhs bolster was flattened, so with my new territory I've been making a point of sitting smack in the middle of the seat, and have found that it's not wearing at all, only done 13000kms, but they are still like new. Maguires leather conditioner works a treat!

Thanks for the reply guy's, the car hardly see's the sun at all as I have a second car to drive to work and the dreaded shopping centre car park,so it sits in the garage most of the time, has never sat out in the sun for more than a couple of hours,I weigh 70kgs so they aren't getting squashed,it gets a clean/condition every two months using Bowden's Own products which I believe to be a good quality product. The leather isn't cracking or anything just seem's to be creasing and doesn't look like it will last a long time,if that's how everyone elses is then that's fine just want to find out if its normal wear,I had a ten year old Audi A4 before the g6e and the seats in that were still like new. Thanks

From what I can see the seat looks brand new. A little stretch in the middle which is expected.

There is also no creasing.

Normally creases appear on the drivers side lower and upper bolsters.

As noted this has a lot to do with entry and exit technique.

aa
