There's little wonder a flash tune, say to 10psi, yields impressive results. The stock 6psi these put out is nothing for the Garrett GT. At 6psi they are hardly in there efficiency zone. These turbos, by design, work better @ 10-15psi on performance app's. As I said earlier, yo could guarantee an incredible streeter just by fitting the smaller exhaust housing (.84 A/R). Unless you were pushing it up in the higher rev range for extended periods, the extra heat the smaller housing would create would be pretty much negligible!

I went through all this when I was considering boosting my 87' Merc 300E. I'd bought it roo-ted & already boosted with a hiflowed T103 (is only a 3.0L). Interestingly, I had purchased a GT3540R same as what the XR6T runs but I was going to use the .84 A/R housing.

Ths is why I am fascinated @ the performance of these XR6T's....... :buttrock:

I think if I remember rightly the hp rating a turbo is given is when running a bar of boost so 14.69 or 15psi to make it simple.

As for the BF2 that I have they really only run 4.3psi up until bout 4000rpm then it peaks to 6psi and holds that higher boost for the rest of the revs.

Very very low boost.

In stock form then. This equates to a very under-used turbo & little stress to the engine. Keep them stock, serviced regularly & they will have a very long life :3gears:

Keep it stock, :roflmbo: , a few months of that and you'll be looking for more. Guaranteed.

And yep agreed, the Force 6 is a very nice looking car. I think the F6E is the FG's equivalent IMO.

Well. A little truth here now you provoked me haha.....picked up my first turbocharged car waaaaay back as a teen. Get this. An E38 Hemi trackpack. One of 30 odd made, ready to race! A VH Bathurst Charger with twin fillers on rear guards. Bumble bee striping you name it. Petrol tank in the boot (kinda where the LPG tank goes in older LPG sedan conversions) &......it was turbocharged with a Garrett air research T03. Small for a 4.3L engine but did it accelerate! Anyway. Owned a Corolla 1.5L import years back & most recently a lil' Mazda 88 model twin cam turbo 323. I was moding it when I decided to give up & part it out. The gearbox's are crap when engine output is increased. Sorry, just got turbo excited there for a minute!

Yep. Certainly the Force 6 is a horny bugger for the eyes! Anyone that doesn't see potential in these XR6T beasts are on a different planet imo. I mean any XR6T for that matter. Worth their weight in gold, regardless of the model/year. Aussie gold haha :icon_ford: I am even considering a BA with a mild flash tune @ the moment as well. Who knows?

Er....EDIT: the Charger of course wasn't boosted from factory hehe. Sorry if I got some ehart beats knocking. Turbo's were rare in the late 80's. Especially custom non-factory mods. This car I owned had low comp' pistons & that was it. It ran a Webber 48mm if I remember, carb & had water through a thin vacuum pipe straight into the webber air cleaner. It ran out of juice at about 4500rpm. How could I forget. That was it's limit in every gear. But it spooled low down. This is why I am liking these XR6's. I need a big six boosted engine again

Also. Chargers were not collectable in any way shape or form in the late 80's or early 90's. I paid little under $5k for it woot woot :buttrock: Sold it for $5k about 3 years later

Don't think anyones mentioned it in this thread, and in case you don't know, Bf-onwards xr's come with the 6 speed auto, which makes them alot toeyier from lower speeds. The earlier ba 4 speeds are sluggish off the line.

There's a 6 speed manual beasty going @ the moment on LPG vapour injection. If anyone knows about the high octane of LPG & mixed with the injection factor &....boosted = great economy, pretty much similar power to petrol, especially if tuned well, as opposed to the old mixer/carb style LPG = pathetic in stock engines. Only con with this baby is the mileaage. 160k.....eeeeiiiioooow!

If it had less k's I would be seriously interested. I have LP injection on our VY Late model camira wagon. It's pretty cool power & economy wise. Not that much different really.

Bit of an update!

I dipped out of the purchase of the Force 6 as it had a little more damage than first indicated (funny that). The LP injected one had too many k's on it really. So, I'm looking @ a late BF one @ moment, without too many frills & with much lower mileage than the last one. I'm just confirming whether or not it has the 6 speed auto. This will prolly be the seller for me :3gears: I'll let you know how this goes hopefully soon.
