So Ive been wanting to do this for a while and never got the chance. For Christmas I end up getting a Thrust master Steering wheel. Nothing too crazy but does the job for now..

I am considering on making a racing simulator. Was going to buy a second hand XR Seat, and set it up..

Anybody got one or has a home made setup?

I've got one. Couldn't be assed making one so I bought the Obutto Ozone cockpit from simparts.co.nz as it was reasonably priced for what it comes with and is a very well made unit. Coupled with the Logitech G25, it makes for a very realistic racing experience :spoton:

Here is the cockpit along with a G25...

I don't use the monitor stand however as I have it set up in front of a TV. Playing with a well designed steering wheel completely changes this game, as it was resigned with a wheel in mind. It becomes so much more realistic, and each car handles exactly like it should in real life. As a result, it becomes a lot harder to play than it is with a dual shock, as with the force feedback you feel every bump in the road, everytime the car breaks traction etc... and you'll find yourself battling with the steering wheel to gain control of the car. Can't speak for any of the lower end steering wheels that don't have force feedback as I haven't used one, but the G25 is bloody awesome! If you can afford this wheel, I highly recommend it as it is the best value wheel on the market as far as 'sim wheels' go. There are better, but they also cost a lot more. Without force feedback it's just not the same.

Yeah I have been told the same on every site.. the G25 and 27 are the best!

I have just looked into this and its not bad for the price you pay.. hmm...Ill need to rethink some things before I make the step.. My maine concern was the setup size! I didnt want to have a setup that would fit some little asian and not a big aussie bloke.. At this point, the obutto looks the goods!

Sorry, I made a typo, I use the G27 not G25 lol. They are almost identical, but the G27 has better shifter feel (they sacraficed the sequential shift option for the sake of making the H-pattern shift firmer). There's also some extra buttons on the wheel of the G27, but these don't work in GT5 anyway lol. I think the pedals are the same on both.

The obutto is very good value for the money you pay. You get a real, full sized car seat, the frame is made of steel and is pretty sturdy, and it's pretty adjustable as well, so you should have no problem fitting in this unless you're ridiculously huge lol. When mounting the seat to the frame, there are 2 ways to mount it, either for shorter people or for taller people, so you mount the seat further back if you're tall, and then you just slide the seat all the way back when playing and you should have plenty of room. I've read of people well over 6 foot playing on this.

The shifter mount can also be adjusted forward and back, so you can mount it closer to the wheel or further back by your side, and can also be height adjusted. Can also be mounted on both sides. The wheel mount can also be adjusted for height, and pedal tray as 2 angle adjustments, depending on what setup you prefer.

If you want to take advantage of a setup like this though you really need to go for a sim grade steering wheel, the difference with something like a G27 and a cheapie is night and day. You'll also probably lose to vevapower until you adjust LOL as it does make the game a lot more difficult as you actually require driving skills when using this wheel (not saying you don't have skills, but if you're used to using the pad then there is a bit of a learning curve with the wheel). Once you adjust though, it's so much better to play on the wheel as you have so much more control over your car. Makes doing some of the trickier licences easier.

yeah I have been looking on ebay. Found a G27 for 350.. See how it goes. I will be removing the steering wheel an upgrade to a MOMO or Sparco 350mm.. Should be a good look..

Next this to improvise is the hand brake which ill get around to in the future..

What are your thoughts on the GTProV2?

yeah $350 is pretty much standard for the G27. That's what I paid for mine. Shop around and see if you can find it cheaper, but definitely don't pay more.

I have not used the Next Level Racing GT Pro cockpit, however, that was my next preference if I didn't get the Obutto. I had read some reviews from a bloke off another forum and he rated it...seems like a well built unit. Only reason I chose Obutto over this, is because it's cheaper and comes with more bits (monitor mount & keyboard tray standard), and there's a ton of positive reviews all over the net including youtube, so I knew it was good. Couldn't find much on the GT Pro seat. The old design I didn't like coz there was no support beams on the steering mount, but the V2 looks better with the support beams.

I don't think you can go wrong with either one really, but at $549 including free delivery (unless you'e in a rural area), the Obutto seems like better value to me, hence why I went with that one. It also seems a lot more adjustable.
