Basically from what I know its got a noisey bearing. When I turn the car off I hear the noisey wind down. My thoughts are leaning towards that screen filter on the oil intlet feed. I want to get it early so I dont screw anything.

So you think I can just fix the bearings rather than buying a new cartridge?

Anyone recommend a place to fix it?

I just replaced the cartridge on my broken turbo (oil starvation for sure, completely snapped the rotating shaft, separating the turbine & compressor wheel) with this replacement cartridge.

Works a treat with the standard housings and only took about a week and a half to arrive from the states. Only recommendation I have in the changeover is to make 100% sure on your alignment of both housings so all your lines and connections go together smoothly:) had a few silly problems sorting that out.

we get the rough end of a pineapple here, even 895 US is too dear. IIRC these things are built in Mexico and then marked up to a ridiculous degree.

Yes if its as you describe it. Take the turbo off and take it to a turbo specialist.

I did call around to quite a few turbo specialists to see what the cost would be, most were a little high... but I found that ETM (Extreme Turbo Manifolds) does a good value recondition of your turbo for you (give Leigh a call for a quote, or send him a PM).

He also does an external wastegate to your existing dump pipe if you so choose to go down that pathway for modification, but of course at an extra cost.

Alot of turbo problems especially with the factory garrett gt35r are the bearing inlet holes which feed the bearing pack. they do not always line up with the machining of the cast housing. I have seen many that do not line up in thus starving the turbo of oil. Good and obvious way to tell is hot spots on the actual bearing pack. I would highly recommending using a mr turbo gt35r bearing replacement cartridge. As the bearing system is different, in speaking so the bearing holes align 100% to the bearing carrier which feeds the bearings themselves. Also you will gain around 15% percent on spool response, since the bearings are aerograde space quality. Ie lighter, stronger and harder then standard steel bearings. Cartridges are retail of around the $1250 mark and are all assemebled and machined in australia. Once doing so as many have said change the oil in line to a braided line. will save you a lot of headaches in the future. Do not listen to ford you must warm up and cool down you turbo vehicle and change the oil every 5000km. .70AR comp covers and wastegate porting are also a good option to do if the turbo is off the vehicle as everyone knows they are not a fun job to remove and put back on!

any questions just pm me

cheers

I am wondering what prices I would be paying to recondition my turbo. I believe that its mainly the bearings that's noisy but the wheels arent hitting or anything. I have had a couple of quote to get it done which have ranged from $1600 to $2200. Are there any shops here that would look after us, etc.

Anyway advice would be great.

Im also considering getting the actuator and flapper done while its off the car, might as well.

Thanks

there are new cores on the australian ebay site for $990.00 including a new oil filter screen
