T lovers,

I really want to get a bigger car however I drive 150km to work everyday and the k’s build up VERY quickly.

Because of this cost at the petrol bowser is a big thing on my list.

Be honest. What fuel economy do you guys get? City, Hwy, Beating WRX’s etc.

This compared to the normal XR6

Also can you put a booost controller on it to reduce your boost during weekdays to save fuel?

Ok, so some here might say that my driving style is ... well ... conservative. :ermm:

I get an average of 11.9l/100klms. :ermm:

Mind you, having said that, when pressed, I've seen the consumption up around 16l.

It's all up to your right foot. :nod:

My fuel economy is sh*thouse...

18litres per 100kms with normal driving

15.5 litres per 100kms with babying (meaning my wifes 1.3L swift takes off faster)

Got it down to 11litres per 100 going to Canberra once :D

22+ litres per 100kms when I'm giving it.

Other though are lucky, 12.5, 13, 14, etc..

Canberra-Central Coast via shopping at Sydney CBD, 10.7L/100km. Think that's just dandy for a car that size.

To be honest if fuel economy is high on your priorities then you are considering the wrong car. Something 4 cyl is obviously the go. My former Hyundai was the worlds most basic car but very miserly on the fuel

I'm sure that this has been covered a couple of times (try searching the forums), but to give you an indication of my fuel use.

I do a 100Km commute a couple of days a week (Wollongong to centre of Sydney). 56km of freeway, the rest is peak hour stop start.

Nearly every tank is in the 12s, with the ocassional 11 when its cold, more when the air con is running.

On the open road (ie 100% freeway running) you can get into single digits with a manual, but its not easy.

Mine has not done 1000kms yet so it is still running it and consumes a lot more than normal...... :( :(

But I am told you will see it come down after approaching 3000kms.

Currently I am averaging 18.7L /100

City/ traffic it sits on approx 14L/100

Highway 11/12L per 100kms

But when I sink the foot in 1st n 2nd I see it climb over 50L/100...hehehe

So as Ken mentioned it is all up to your right foot. If you can average 11-13L /100 you should be very happy. :D :

I have 8000 plus on now and it is averaging 15.7l/100km (from km 35).

99% of driving is around Sydney so not so good with all the stop start.

It was averaging 16.4 until I had to do 3 trips to the 'gong a few weeks back, but it has stayed there so maybe it's getting better.....

Count on 15L to 16L for city driving.

Seriously, if you're in the mkt for a T I would not be concerned with the cost of fuel.

Assume you travel 15,000km a year the fuel spend cannot vary by more than $1,400 based on kms. (Double the figures for 30,000km)

Price of fuel ----> .80 .90 1.00

Consumption

12L $1440 $1620 $1800

15L $1800 $2025 $2250

18L $2160 $2430 $2700

Are you intending to buy a boost control (like jap cars) to save fuel only? If yes, you will need to modify the ECU (or go the piggyback option) to alter boost.

If you are on the freeway and cruising you will have the turbo on boost for short bursts only. Hence, reducing the boost (which is only 6psi) will have marginal impact on fuel consumption (if any).

Save the $$$ on the boost control and offset this against the fuel bill.

I would think that the NA and T would be pretty similar on fuel on the freeway when cruising.

There is a big difference between the manual and auto if you drive for economy. The manual will give good economy on 80kph plus roads, down to single figures, but the auto will not get better than about 12s because the torque convertor is set-up to flare to 2000 rpm at the slightest hint of throttle.
