Can anyone explain the reasoning behind the left mirror with the sensor being fully replaced and why does this have something to do with the air con as I though it was just a gimick on the screen for showing the outside temp.

I believe some people sensors are not reading even close to accurate which can have affect air con performance.- Think the climate control also uses this to determine air temp.

Climate control adjusts the level of cooling/heating based on outside temp, sunload (sensor at the front of the dash), cabin temp, and of course the set temp.

So when everything functions properly it works flawlessly, wash your car without drying it on a sunny summer day though and it all comes unstuck and starts blowing warm air in to the foot wells when on full automatic. :ermm:

My temp gauge seems resonably accurate but on hot days the air con seems to almost stwich off at times no matter if it is on auto or semi-auto. I wonder if this sensor is stuffed on my car?

Might have to go back to ford for warranty which is always fun!

The temp sensor on our F6 was about 8 degrees out when we picked her up so Ford changed the mirror under warranty, now accurate. About 6 weeks ago the A/C didn't want to play and would blow uneven temps for the dual zone (if passenger was warmer/driver colder it would be reversed) and even on its coldest setting on a 30 degree day it was not cooling the cabin. Went back to Ford (again) and they found some of the internal flaps had broken, had to replace a couple of these and now works great. Apparently even when calling for full cooling the heating vent wasn't fully closing and it wouldn't get below 27 degrees. The service guy at Ford mentioned it was a pretty common problem so something to keep an eye out for.
