popped into workshop today ... coils are good.

so is all the below. even checked the simple stuff like general earths, and if the battery was fully charged etc.

You need to check the impedance (resistance) of the coils and make sure they are within the range of the Motec. Factory coil wiring has a permanet earth and a switch +ve, the motec needs too be setup the same way if possible ("normally" the coils have a permanent +ve feed and switched earth)

Still using the factory crank angle sensor? They dont prduce a very strong signal and if the wiring too/from the sensor is close too any high current wiring (ie alternator or coil wiring)

Induced current can cause erratic signals and funky timing changes.

Also get the Input from the sensor check out the motec will probably need a rising edge signal and im 99% sure ford sensors are falling edge. Again this can cause erratic signals

im thinking I will need igniters, like what M&W sell. that will get the spark up.

unfortunately at the moment, the technical guru for Motec (Glen Baker) is away for work, so is unreachable, so I have to wait 2 weeks before he can give some suggestions.

havent had a chance to go to the workshop since last week :(

probably will head there next week, so yeah, might be able to source a cheap Motec CDI unit (worst case), so that could help :)

ok update. good news.

we had low spark issues still, no matter what we did,

a couple of the things were earthing - the car is solid mounted to chassis, that's a decent earth haah.

and direct power from battery to start motor, so it was getting enough power.

solution: get Glenn Baker the motec guru to help :P

so what we thought were internal ignitors on the coilpacks, arent. haha.

we got sparks the size of lightening bolts :D

ive got to source a M&W CDI unit, which has 250mJ compared to the Motec's 150mJ unit.

anybody got any contacts for M&W products?

No Contacts but can vouch for the quality of the gear, Have been running 2ecu ignitors and 4 of there dual output coil packs in my Rangie for over 3 years, they have copped heat, mud , dust etc etc and never missed a beat.

20mm spark gap anybody
