Death fall teen was texting

February 8th, 2011

A TEEN who plunged to his death from a multi-storey car park was texting on his phone when he fell, his grandmother says.

Patricia Schroeter told Radio 3AW this morning that her grandson, Ryan Robbins, was taking two young women to their car in the car park on Russell St in the city when he fell, the Herald-Sun reports.

While he had been drinking, Ms Schroeter told the station the youth was not drunk as he escorted the women to their car.

"Unfortunately, he was watching his phone instead of where he was walking and went over the rail,” Ms Schroeter said.

She said higher rails should be installed in the car park.

In situations where ones actions don't endanger others let natural selection take it's course (not talking about the case above but in general).

Like the guy that was killed in the cyclone BY THE DIESEL GENERATOR FUMES he had running in the same room he was sheltering in.

Unfortunately our society takes the easy route and regulates to the lowest common denominator.

Spoton there. And as much as that concept sh*ts me I actually agree with the suggestion of the topic as they are very dangerous whether holding them or not as most of the stupid drivers out there can't handle doing more than one thing at a time.

They should add another segment the driving tests...ability to hold a lit ciggie in the right hand, ice coffee between the legs, phone in the right hand, and steer with the knee. If you can't do that then no license for you.

Well, I had to dive off a pedestrian crossing, ie traffic lights - when a 4WD driver went thru a red light while yakking on his phone. I'm not talking about just missed a yellow. This was 30 seconds after the lights were red in a very open area. He wasn't texting just talking. I was kinda watching as he was coming, thinking he's going a bit quick. He's gonna stop. Surely he'll see the lights. No worries, he'll see the cross traffic, hope he doesn't hit someone. Gee, he's gonna see me. OH sh*t!

I don't think he had a clue about anything except who was on the other end of that phone call.

That really shook me up and changed my perspective.
