Exhaust Rattle

A common problem with these I6 engines is a rattle in the exhaust, If you have a look there are two halves of the heat shields on the exhaust, the most common area that causes a rattle is the section of exhaust that contains the Catalytic converter, the front of this section bolts the exhaust manifold, and the rear bolts to the intermediate section of the exhaust, the standard systems have stainless steel straps welded to the mild steel exhaust, the straps are what both halves of the heat shield bolt to. Due to two dis-similar metals but more likely poor welding, the weld bead cracks and the straps vibrate against the exhaust and cause the heat shields to rattle, this can also cause the stainless cable ties on the outside of the heat shield to loosen at the rear of the cat section of the exhaust making it worse. When I worked at ford we did heaps of these, you can either have a crack at welding it up or take it to a exhaust shop. Your decision. have you checked that its not earings in your ashtray. seriously though if you have standard exhaust then get used to it.

I have a rattle that is simular but it's on a ute sounds like under dash or passenger seat its only when I'm coming down the revs (manual) it vibrates really loud sounds like lol I got told it might be rocks under heat shield but I have since removed that and it still vibrates under there any help would be greatly appreciated
