len Member 42 Member For: 22y 2m 10d Posted 05/11/03 12:22 PM Share Posted 05/11/03 12:22 PM I have noticed a rather loud screaming sound that seems to come occassionally from the engine area when accellerating quickly from around 100Kmphr. The sound is like say an alternator with buggered beariings or a fan belt slipping something terrible. The sound only occurs sometimes (its happened about 6 times in about 4 months) when planting the accerelator at around 100 Kmphr. It sounds terrible.Has anyone else experienced such a sound.Any idea what it could be (turbo, auto transmission??).

Guest Trevor Guests Posted 05/11/03 09:35 PM Share Posted 05/11/03 09:35 PM Hey, len,I have had this problem and posted resultant actions in another forum but can't remember where, so here is the answer. The top corners of your windscreen have plastic clips under the weather strip. The wind gets in there and resonates. Ford paid for windscreens obrien to replace my screen and that fixed the problem.NOTE: A new windscreen wasn't acctually the answer. The fix would have been simply to lift the old screen and have them smear some urethate arount the edges of the plastic clips. This seals them off enough to get rid of that horrible screech.Hope this helps,Trevor

The eurathane bead under the screen is too small. The windscreen needs replacing because there is every chance it will crack while being removed. If you don't want the screen replaced there is a cheap fix of a plastic moulding that goes in the gap between the roof and the top to the screen, does'nt look too bad.Personally, I'd get the windscreen replaced.Al

Took the head tech for a demo run & he's going to remove the idler pulley & revove a casting tag that's on them. He said that ford told him to perform this on any car that has unusual wear on the belt. It's being done on the 19th, hope it stops as it sounds worse than Ricky Martin!!Scotty
