Ba/bf Ute Sub Install

Important things to remember:

- The sound frequency produced from a sub is of a very large wavelength which means it will bend easily around shapes/objects. What I'm getting at is, don't be too worried about getting everything symmetrical or in the middle, you won't be able to hear the difference.

- If you are running a big amp, chances are you will need to run a large CSA positive supply direct from the battery, always put a fuse on the positive supply just after the battery so no fires can occur under fault conditions.

- Try and avoiding running the audio signal and power supply along the same side of the car, it can cause line interference.

Oh and I agree with above, it may look cool but 2 subs won't really improve sound quality. For directional speakers it will, but in a ute with a large wavelength, its a bit of a waste of space!

I ran a $70 clarion sub for a while. Sounded fine, especially in a ute....

Terribly misguided post.

-What do you think DBDrag is all about? Competitors spend huge amounts of time getting their subs/ports/amps setup in such a way that it maximises SPL AT THE MICROPHONE. Moving a sub 6 inches can affect that measurement massively. The small environment inside cars and especially utes makes it difficult to achieve nice linear bass. Maybe look up 'Transfer function in Cars'.

-Definitely agree with this, caps are bandaids for small cables/long runs.

-It is very very unusual to have 'induced' interference particularly on a shielded RCA cable. It is often misdiagnosed where there are ground loops or poor grounds present. Usually happens when the head unit ground and amp grounds are in different places in the car. The ignition noise (present in the cars chassis/ground) that you can hear in some cars is very low voltage(relative to different ground points) and simply cannot be induced across cables.

I agree with gonadman2 because I'v had a previous ute with one sub behind the passenger seat then I added a second behind driver seat and far far far more bass with two... does anyone have any pics of there installs into ba/bf utes...cheers

Hey mate, I have 2 12" subs in my ute, one sits behind the passenger and the other behind the drivers seat, ill take some piccies for you when I get home from work and upload them, pumps hard, made 142db in the comp I went in.. im nearly 6 foot, but I did lose quite a bit of seat adjestment.. nothing you cant get used to though

One 10 or 12 inch sub is all u need in a small box with 600-1000w any more will over power the stereo remember the sub is in the cab with u n the cab is a very small space. It's not like your putting it in a sedan were iv seen cars loaded up with subs in the boot and it's all muffled by the back seat. Go utes.

nice man I take it that's a custom made box to suit what do u have under each end to stop it from rocking on the centre part that sticks up off the floor?
