I went to my local audio store and he sugested I go with Focal splits 165vb up front and 165cvx in rear and put in a polk 8" free air sub

The other thing he wants to do is dynomat the rear shelf

Installed he wants $1160 (and that includes mdf mounts for the doors) or he said alpine speakers and same sub including dynomat for $880

What do you think it will sound like and is the price ok

Thanks

Do the sound deadening yourself, Its simple. Best thing you can do is the parcel tray, but do the doors also. Buy some flashtac from bunnings, take a weekend. Theres plenty of threads and articles on-line.

I replaced all the speakers and wasn't all that amazed with the results, made me realise the standard arn't too bad?!?

You sous deaden the rear shelf to lower the resonance frequency of the metal the speakers are attached to, this will stop any rattle sounds and increase the lower to mid range frequencies.

honestly I would be doing the doors first before I did the parcel shelf, and buy dynamat dont buy anything else, dynamat is the shiz. Doing the doors will have more of an effect and sound better than what the rear shelf will

The speakers aren't too bad it's the sub that's useless, I'll be trading it for a 12 inch in it's own ported box first and see how that goes before I think about changing the speakers.

If you can sacrifice the boot space then do the box and sub. If not first step to improving from my experience would be the sub tray. I did the doors (speakers/deaden) first didn't notice huge improvement. Deadened the tray and that was definitely a huge improvement. If I cared more I would get a better freeair sub as I need my 100% of my boot regularly.

The only benefit to buying dynamat is its easier to apply as it sticks a little better. With flashtac you have to clean the panel with turps, warm it if its a cold day, and give it a good press on. Do that and their pretty much the same.

you running amped speakers? I got a 12 inch sub and 2 amps in the boot. Sound deadened 1 door and not the other to see the difference and the one that was undeadened rattled pretty badly. Also if you want better performance out your speakers seal up the service holes as well. only got 1 rattle in my car at them moment and that's the stupid rear view mirror, just about ready to pull the peace of sh@# off
