Pulled the intake tube off the turbo on my Fg today (2000km on the clock) and there was cleanish engine oil in it. There was enough that to wipe it with your finger was like wiping a dipstick. The oil was coming straight out of the turbine.

Is it normal for oil to go through like this and if so how much is too much

A bit is normal, basically a small pool in the front cover is normal.

If it worries you, and it can, get yourself an oil catch can from super cheap or repco for $60. I have a mate with an FG with the same issue and he put on in and it fixed his.

Expect there to be that much and potentially more until your engine is properly run in.

The service schedule calls for the intake pipework to be cleaned every 15k service as well.

I just removed all mine and cleaned it with some degreraser. Dry before refitting and look forward to the next service.

If it is just a small amount it sould be fine, but keep an eye on it as there has been a couple of cases of cartridge seal failure which leads to a lot more oil being dispoced intot he pipework.

mine is leaking oil into the piping AFTER the turbo... ie the hot side of the intercooler piping...

so much so that its actually dripping out of the joins in the pipes...

my intake manifold is covered with oil now... :(

ford's response: that's completely normal. nothing wrong.

so I'm guessing, even if you empty the engine oil into the intake system, ford will say its normal...

what was oil level like? I no over filling oil can cost oil to pump throught turbo, makes big mess can go through cooler ect. but none on my turbo cars have had that problem, but I do see alot a turbo with oil through turbo housing at work, best just keep a eye on it.

oil after the turbo sounds like turbo oil seals from oil seal failure , only other way is if the intake (suction side ) has a restriction and the turbo draws the oil past the seal .
