Not sure if this has been asked, but ill fire away anyway...

In regards to what I call "pedestrian crossings", the things on the road with the zebra stripes and the signs of the legs walking....

Do cyclists have to dismount for these? Every cyclist around here just zooms across them, and they wonder why we nearly collect them!

I am sure they have to dismount, but some clarification would be super. :ta:

In Canberra legally they are supposed to, I don't and I don't know any other cyclists that do. Pedal Power the local Canberra cycling club were trying to get the rule changed but I think they've had any luck so far.

I try not to zoom out in front of cars on my pushy, bad for my health. I got into a bit of a road rage situation about this the other week. A bunch of cyclists (about 10, maybe 12) including myself were waiting for a walk signal from the traffic lights so we could cross Barry Drive from the Uni. The lights turned green for us so we all rode across (bad ppl I know!). At the other side there is a slip lane that has a pedestrian crossing and as a girl was trying to ride acrosss this some stupid old w*nker in some sh*tbox was baulking he trying to run her down while yelling abuse at her and the bunch in general (for riding and not walking). I was the last to go across so I stopped and asked him to wind his window down so I could have a 'chat' with him as I considered what he was doing was very dangerous and bordered on criminal (trying to run the girl down). The way I saw it we were doing the guy a favour by riding across the crossing, it is a hell of a lot slower for a dozen cyclists to dismount and walk across. And I doubt that anybody would of made it across all the lanes of Barry Drive walking before the light turned red and the traffic started flowing again.

I hear what you are saying Mick, it's a couple of people in a group that can spoil it for the rest. Uni students (especially overseas ones) are notorius for ignoring road rules and doing dumb things while riding bikes.

Plonky,

I have a quick question...

I have noticed at quite a number of intersections in Sydney (actually many from interstate as well) there are a number of metal poles with three coloured lights at the top. It appears that only one colour is illuminated at a time and they change in a set sequence. If I remember correctly, the colours were Red, Yellow and Green.

Are these for government sanctioned street racing events?

Any suggestions on what these may be for?

Yes it is an offence for a cyclist to ride a bicycle across a pedestrian crossing but it is rarely policed.

Though, I do have a penchant for giving tickets to the 'lumpen proletariat' who sponge off my tax, especially bicycle infringements, unregistered dog, dog not on leash, littering etc etc

Ponch,

apologies if this has been covered, I did a quick search but came up trumps...

what is the G-O with driving or fog lights? Lets take the lights on the XR's, what situations can you legally drive with them on? Can you be booked for driving with them on during the day/night in perfect weather conditions?

cheers

Welcome back Ponch.

I followed a car with only one brake lamp out of 3 still working today.

It reminded me of a time when I nearly smashed into the back of a car that stoped in a hurry but had no brake lights at all.

If I did hit them would I be charged or would they?
