Gday mate.

I have a BF but what you want to do is similar to the path I went on.

I went for PBR-Ms for variuos reasons and was told my 18"s would fit over them. And they did as far as diameter goes but the spoke of the wheel was too thick on the inside and didnt clear the front caliper. So, just cause you have 18"s don't assume. Make sure you check the clearance.

Mine came as a kit but no, you don't have to change the master cylinder, but it would be advisable to change to braided brake lines. Not expensive and helps keep the lines compresses under pressure so you don't loose feel or performance.

Also, my kit came with, and I was advised to change brake fluid from the standard dot 3 to dot 4. You will have to do a complete bleed of the system, starting with the passenger rear, then the drivers rear, then pass front and drivers front so you pull the most new fluid through the system.

Do all those things and you should be fine.

The other thing is rotors. Many will tell you the brembo rotors wear too much and the preferred combo, I am told, is the brembo calipers and DBA rotors.

Mate I'm not a mechanic but I did do all my brakes myself. They stop like stink and everyone comments on the look so I must have dont something right.

Other mays have differing opinions. That's what you want though, to get as much info as you can.

Good luck.

I would be keen to get the PBR-Ms for my BF mk2 ute...but I worry if they would clear my factory 18" XR sports wheels

It is not a hard or expensive job. For the gains made.

Do it right the first time though.

You will need;

. The 6/4 combo and brackets.

. Braided brake lines. Totally optional. But if you are going to get them, do them now or you will be bleeding the brakes again later and that can be a pain.

. Good fluid. I use Penrite Sin. Not the best or the dearest. It does a good job for the price. From memory paid $13 for 600ml. Get two. You will need about 1 &1/3

. Loktite 243 For the bracket bolts.

. A roast baster. Use this to get the excess fluid out of the master reservoir. A roast baster is a tube with a squeezy sucky ball on the end that sucks up the juice... or in this case brake fluid.

. 4 empty bottles.

. Roughly 4m of fish tank air hose.

. Good hydraulic jack and at least two stands.

. Wheel chocks

. Rivet gun and two rivets for the rear brake lines.

. Get the car up on your stands. If you only have two it can still be done but chock your wheels. No brakes at all soon so it really is a must. Or you will have a case of the dynowog whoops.

. While the brakes are off you should be able to compress the pads back to make them easier to slide over the rotors.

. Drain out the reservoir with the baster. And use the fish tank air line over your brake bleeders and pump the rest out neatly to your empty bottles. That's where the other end of your air lines should be. In the bottle. And pump the rest of the crappy fraud fluid out with your brake pedal.

. Release the hand brake pad tensioner in the hub. You don't usually need to loosen the handbrake cable. You will find the hub tensioner behind the rubber grommet on the hubs.

. Pull the old brakes off.

. Bolt on all the new shoite. Don't forget the Loktite on your bracket bolts.

. Re-rivet the rear brake lines to the inner guard.

. Re set the hand brake tensoiner in the rear hubs. You can do it by feel. Turn the hub before you start and get a feel for the resistance. Soon as it catches when tensioning back it off a half turn.

. Go back over your work and make sure all bolts are tight and all is in alignment and looks good.

. Now you are ready to bleed.

. Fill the reservoir with new fluid.

. I put the car up on 4 stands so it's right off the ground.

. I have the fish tank air line on all bleeders. But I start the bleeding on the left rear as it is the furthest away from the reservoir. So fill up the reservoir and start bleeding. Left rear, right rear, left front and finally right front.

. When I have them all bled I then do a bit of the old gravity bleed on them. Fill the reservoir and crack all the bleeders. Make sure the end of the air hoses are under a bit of brake fluid in the bottles. And keep a good eye on the reservoir and that it doesn't run dry.

. Go round and tighten all the bleeders. l/r r/r l/f r/f and job done.

Sorry if I have forgotten something. Early tired and hung over. I do it by myself and it takes about three hours all up including the gravity bleed. If I think of anything I will edit later

thanks so much for the info mate. :beerchug:

just wondering the last time I look at PBR web site....I thought the brackets and braided lines came with the M series kit?

I run the factory 18" XR sports wheel, if someone can be 100% sure they would clear I would buy the kit

Not sure on the Kits Bazz.

Listen to Lukes advice. You will end up needing them sooner than later. Upper and lower control arm. Pat @ wholesale can post you them or if your in Bris-vegas you can get them strait off Fulcrum. Get their bush Goo too. It really works a treat.

I got mine off a friend who comes up with them every now and then. Getting second hand is the go. The rotors are soft. They do work but they don't last. Some say they are the cause of some shudder but.... I doubt it.

You have a ute..... I'm assuming you do.... so all you really want is the front 6 pot mono block calipers. Because for less than OEM's you can buy better rotors and pads. Maybe some Bendix Ultimate and DBA4000's, what ever is your preferred choice. I am thinking about $2500 to do the fronts with, lines, rotors, blocks and pads. If you hunt around.

Go on Ebay and the classifieds here and other Ford forums. They do come up quite often. I have a feeling Ford workers can get them quite cheap and move them along. :)
