Hi all, has any one got sat nav in there car, was wondering how it is and how easy it is to use. AM tossing up to get a portable one or get the in built one, ( factory one )any info would be great thanks.

Hi, Have Sat Nav in my Seduce G6E turbo.

Pulled a few strings and managed to get it fitted retrospectively for around $1800.

Inbuilt speaker system sounds "tinny" and poor. Apparaently it was quite difficult to tap into existing stereo wiring and speakers in the vehicle.

Very seldom use it as its just not very user friendly. Has no touch screen as per our Toyota Sahara (much better system) and other factory systems. Complicated to load in destinations etc. Do like the 3D graphic option so not all is lost.

Think a $150 Tom Tom works better though and money would be better spenton this.

Only downside with Tom Tom and another after market unit is that it is not intergrated into the vehicle.

Common Ford, Please fit a decent touch screen system.

The factory sat-nav DOES play through the vehicle speakers. It may have been difficult for whoever was doing your retrospective install to do it as per original factory spec.

I've got an aftermarket system. It's basically a computer that runs Windows CE with a touch screen overlay for the factory screen. You can load any navigation software you like on to it. I'm currently running the latest IGo Primo and it's great. You can wire the sound into the factory speakers if you like, but I've just got mine running off a hidden speaker.

PM me if you're interested and in Perth and I'll send you the details of the shop that does them.

Using a remote is ridiculous for navigation in a car.

dedogman: Had the same problem with my radar detector a while back. Just go on ebay and buy a handful of new suction cups for like $1 each. That'll fix it :) Oh and clean the spot on the windscreen where you mount it.

I'm selling my ASL Sat Nav Kit on ebay. As long as you have the Colour ICC Screen your good to go.

Well.... there are others that have it. ive got it in my FG F6 ute. its nice having it intergrated, but BIG pain in arse to use, remote is slow to navigate and as soon as u move u cant add directions (passanger of course).

- UPGRADES: well, went to Ford, asked about it, the guy couldnt tell me if it was a DVD or a SD device, or even where its kept, and I think it was around $450/$500 for the upgrade.

BUT - after crawling through my car I found the box. its a SD device, which leads me to

1. its a VDOdayton system

2. on the VDO website u can update the maps for $200~

3. it has 2 SD card slots. the standard SD card goes in slot 2. any1 know what the other slot would be for? there is actually a litle metal tab covering slot 1....

and lastly, the thing I wanted most out of the unit was the "traffic updates". after a little research ive found that it runs off TMC (traffic management control). it hasnt worked for me since ive owned it. (google/wiki TMC for more info)

..... as ive been typing this ive just found new info on the system and new software updates :google: . when I get back home (tuesday, joys of the FIFO lifestyle) im gonna update it, put new maps on it, and see if the TMC is connected properly.

VDO manual

(im pretty sure the box is the PC5200, but the manual comes under the VRM6100 system, think its cos of the screen or something)

.....

the box was in the passenger footwell on the rhs in my ute. and no, I didnt pay for the GPS, bought the car s/h with it. figured I may as well make the most of it. wish I could install a garmin system and a touch screen on it.

I will update again when I work out a bit more about it. dunno if any1 is interested, but thought id add my 2 cents

:werd:
