I'm too stingy to buy new rims right now, so have been playing around with paint shop pro.

Thoughts?

Bronze?

I like this pic of the darker chrome.

What colours look good on lightning strike? I'm thinking darker shades for the contrast.

Also what is the cost to have rims painted - or powdercoated. Which is better and why?

I painted the rims on the girlfriends XR5, came out mint... cost around $50 for all the stuff from Autobarn.

I'm sure I've got better photos somewhere!

Sanded back wheels, 2 coats of primer, 2 coats of Mat Black, 2 coats of clear coat and done :buttrock: Some of the boys on here have seen the car up close and cant believe they were done with a DIY spray can

hrmmm actually that quite a bad photo! if you want I'll take a better pic for you this arvo

to be honest the pic looks pretty crap, I took it days after the job was finished so the clear coat still looks quite glossy.

I'll take a better pic today, now you cant even tell they have been painted, they look like they came from the factory like that

I painted the R34 GT-T wheels on my old Skyline with Gloss rattle pack and they looked good (I think).

Just redid them every year or so as they start to fade due to brake dust etc....

I just cleaned them right up and gave them a lite rub with some fine wet and dry then sprayed away.

About $15 worth of the cheapest cans from supercrap.

I saw a painted set of stock 18's, the ones with the single dent/line at the edges, caught my eye and looked ok.

I think painting them manually would be the only thing to do. Spending over $50 to get them painted/coated is silly (it'd cost that per rim anyway), may as well put that towards a real set of rims! Just been bored of the rims for a long time but buying a set of twisty 19's fell through ages ago and have spent $ on go fast mods since, which sent me broke hahaha! Or at least should start saving properly. Need surge tank too :/

Stupid hobby!! :roflmbo:
