For those in the South Sydney Area S & H Automatics do a full service including a Steel Pan and Filter for $440.00!

Also did you know that all Jag's that sport the 6HP26 (I.e same one in the T's) have a Steel pan from factory!

id be keen as sh*t to find out where they source their parts from then becuase the best prices I can find for the steel pan + bolts + filter element is about $250.

ZF oil is like johnny blue, way to pricey.

even using castrol transmax Z is $85 for 4litres... and you need 8 litres minimum.

then theres labour... sumthings not right!

The CHEAPEST price I can get anywhere in town (and ive tried EVERYWHERE) is going to be about $450 for a plastic pan/filter, 8L of transmax Z, and labour.

Ford quote 3.5hours labour just for the service. theres nearly $300 alone, Yet it takes about 45mins to 1hr to do correctly with the scantool.

How does fluid change in the ZF require a scan tool? wat the :bangcomputer:

I thought it was just the same as Bimmer u just leave the car running and the gearbox would automatically suck in the fresh fluid from the filler-hole on the right hand side. A minor service of the gearbox only takes a few minutes but 3 hours???????

Unless you mean they charge you for the 3 hour parking at their dealership for a job that could be done in less than 10 min :icon_ford:

Mate S & H do all the silver service Ford taxis and literally have at anytime 4 – 6 ZF’s just sitting there ready to be thrown in any ZF ‘ed Ford that rolls in!

They also have big stocks of Steel pan’s and filters!

As I said they charged me $440.00 Including GST and I reckon it took the guy about 45 – 50 mins to complete!

you have to pour in certain amounts at certain gearbox temps and cycle gears in order bla bla bla... ive got a PDF file from ZF and its a headcase... wish it was just pour, drip drip and seal!

Mind you, it probably does just the same.... Just another way ford can stiff you more labour time for $$$.

But for the price it is to rebuild these suckers, and how far I am from ANYWHERE who id trust to touch my gearbox,id rather have it done by the scantool just for safety. :surrenderwave:

when buying stuff in bulk I dont doubt it... but I highly doubt the oil they use is worth a pinch of piss!

They used ZF Oil out of a ZF 20ltr drum I was present throughout the whole service and watched over them like a hawk!

I'm sort of not sure how to read into you posts Troughy!

It appears that you seem unhappy that these S & H guys can actually do a good by the book ZF service cheaper and the guys you have found!

I would have thought that they guys in the south Sydney Area or for that matter any of the Sydney guys would be stoked to know that they can get a full ZF oiled, steel pan and filter for under $450.00!

I sent 4RZILA tro them and he too was really happy with their work and more importantly their price!

here is the zf filling procedure,

from what I make of it you need the oil to be around 30-40 degrees or else you won't put enough in. and I figure if you let it get too hot (>50degrees) you end up with too much in there.

I'm going to give it a go with a mechanic mate of mine who reckons its been easy on the bimmers he's worked on.
