G'day folks

Seems like new Pan and gasket kits are mandatory when it comes to overhauling the ZF 6 speed ATF, is there any reason to not bolt the original units back on for repeated use?

Aftermarket Metal pan/gasket kits arn't favoured since the ATF temperature will fluctuate greatly ===> more fluid changes required

Lets hear some suggestions shall we?

The metal pan also acts as a safety barrier.

You don;t want to flick up a rock, crack the plastic pan, get a small leak and then kill you box do you!

I would only service the box if your moving up the power stakes!

Some use Transmax Z some use the ZF oil, if your going 400+ rwkws then I've heard the big boys are favouring the Transmax.

My 2 cents!

Steel pan a definite if your going to lower I reckon, cheap insurance. As for temp fluctuations, how well do you think 3 mm of plastic is going to insulate/ stabilize temps anyway?

Plastic is way slower to conduct heat than metal, so I can understand the worry, but hadn't heard about it affecting the box before. Even some BFs have metal covers from factory?

Yeah they swapped over to metal pans at some stage, think just prior to FG? Either way mine has one too.

That said...how unlucky I must be, BF II update, last of the BF's and they retro-fitted the BA-XR6T intercooler and the plastic oil/pan...how convenient :beerchug: If folks are suggesting alloy/metal oil/pans what kind of cost are we talking about for the conversion?

The question still remains unanswered: Why is it recommended that the factory plastic pan/gasket kit need to be replaced for a new one when getting it serviced?

Simple, because the Filter is built into the pan.. you cannot just replace the filter on the stock plastic units.

A whole new pan has to be purchased to service it correctly. I will be doing this in about 3 weeks with some transmax Z and a full flush.

There was more than one intercooler fitted to the B series XR6T's from factory?
