I've just purchased a flapper (37mm, Garret Part Number 774184-0001) from MTQ in Perth, for the wastegate mod on my XR6T. What I would like to know is what should the housing be ported out too (How Many Millimetres)

Cheers

1.5/2mm overlap between the port and the flapper will suffice. To get the best out of the unit you need too smooth the wastgate hole and do a little finessing to direct the gases correctly

I'd suggest if possible you get Simon from XFT too open it up for you. He has some little tricks that help too prevent the dreaded boost spike.

Cheers mate for the fast response, I will do the mod myself, I have ported and polished heads before so this should be no real biggie, I have a thickness tester so I can monitor the thickness of the housing walls as I do the porting. Once again thanks for your help.

No worries mate. when you carry out the work, have a think about the direction the gas is travelling when it exists the manifold and wants too head out the wastegate. This should give you a pretty good idea of the areas that need blending/smoothing.

You can find previous threads about the porting quite easily here on Xr6Turbo.

Here is a link discussing the porting and what needs to be done. It even has pictures of the housing that I ported myself...

Read my posts in another thread..... Porting the housing

Be sure to read the pages below also.. There are many words of wisdom in there ......

Cheers bud I will take all of this into account when I go ahead with the mod, thanks for your help. If only some one would sell me a housing to do the mod on. I'm sure something will come up.

Cheers

I purchased a new flapper and bush together.. As my bush broke when I tried to remove it...

From memory it was around $120 for both...

See Ratter here on the forums. He can supply them at a better price.. :spoton:

Good housings are VERY hard to find.. As they all crack where the turbo bolts together... Upon close inspection my original housing was shagged also..... It is now used as a door stop...... I wish you luck with your search...

MTQ have the flapper for $37+Postage, if you ask them nicely they will just send it for free in an envelope. I rang MTQ in Perth and spoke to Tristan in the turbo parts, just google search them and your set.

Good as wood :buttrock: ported the housing out to 32mm and left a min of 1mm overlap. I have another housing that I will port and do the flapper mod to, within the next 2 weeks, if anyone is interested PM me for price.

Cheers
