Hello,

I know this area very well and I'd like to point out a couple of things.

The road between winchelsea and inverleigh is a crappy road and some parts are single lane meaning you'll have to put your cars half in the gravel at around 80 clicks every time a car comes the other way. Might not be real nice when in a convoy.

Also the Hamilton hwy between inverleigh and Geelong is once of the worst roads in Vic at the moment, the condition is an absolute joke.

If the last planned cruise was in 2007 there has been a ring road built around Geelong that's saves you from having to go back into north Geelong.

I suggest where the 2 cruise paths cross on the map you cut out the top one and follow the lower path back to waurn pond where the ring road starts and from there you can bypass to whole of Geelong and puts you right back out on the Princes Fwy.

It would work out a quicker route and cut some of the rooted country roads aswell.

The rest of the cruise is awesome, I've done it many times on my triumph and you can't go wrong :)

Thanks Jarrod. From memory, the cruise last year did in fact take a different route but I didn't have access to that map. I'll be driving it before the cruise so will map out a better one.

Your right though. If that's the case not good at all for cruising in a line of cars.

Thanks for that local knowledge mate. Its priceless and I can check out alternatives.

Cheers.

I think from memory, last cruise we turned right at Whinch and just headed back to Geelong down the Highway. I could be wrong.

Turning right at winchelsea is prob best.

If you go through Geelong on the way down you won't use the ring road and that's fine since you're going for a sight seeing cruise anyway but using it on the way back would be best. The bridge that gets banked up sometimes will all be bypassed using the ring road. It's only about 1 1/2 years old so it wouldn't have been there in 2007.

I'll try and put a map up myself, it's only the last little bit that could be changed, the rest is spot on the best roads.

I should have my first xr6t by then so I might be able to come anyway. Put the deposit down today, just waiting for the roadworthy :)

so Rudiger just to clarify we are taking the Great Ocean road backwards in effect? coming onto the road at Skenes Creek then heading back towards Lorne after lunch at Apollo Bay, then from Lorne heading the back way towards Deans Marsh.

So on our way there we will take the Geelong Bypass to Waurn Ponds then head down the Princes Hwy and take the turn off to Skenes Creek?

I'm really confused! do you think you could map it out in Google maps and post the link to the route instead of just the map?

That's sounds right to me except I think he wants to go though the centre of Geelong on the way down and bypass it on the way back. I got confused with the ring road because it said North Geelong when I think it's meant as the north end not the suburb North Geelong. They are in totally different areas :)

Yes mate, everyone is welcome. There will be sections of spirited driving no doubt but you go at your own pace and we make sure we travel as a group, so for photo shoots and the like we wait for who is ever at the rear.

Remeber you can leave at any time.

We are booked in to have lunch at the Apollo Bay Hotel. You don't have to have lunch with us but can rejoin for the journey home. Up to you.

I bring my 16 year old daughter to most of the cruises and usually my 11 year old although I don't know about this one. I wouldn't bring my mother (when she was alive) as I couldnt stand the whinging lol.

So try and come along. Just let me know so I can put you down in the first post and I can confirm numbers at the hotel.
