Great Ocean Road Cruise 2011

Date : Sunday 6th of February 2011

Time : 9AM Departure

GOR1.jpg

DESTINATIONS: Princes Highway, Geelong, Apollo Bay (Lunch), Great Ocean Road, Lorne and Angahook Lorne State Park.

DESCRIPTION: This cruise heads south west from Melbourne to take in world famous the Great Ocean Road.

ROUTE HAS BEEN REMAPPED

This is an amended route and Rusty and I have driven it and there are definitely some great Roads. Starting in Melbourne, there will be some smooth eye-catching XRs in-a-line freeway cruising along the Princes Highway towards Geelong. We take the new Geelong Bypass heading down towards Waurn Ponds to avoid the Geelong Traffic.

We then take a right towards Colac but peel off and head down towards the surf coast. We travel on the Mount Duneed Road through Moriac and towards Deans Marsh. If we can, theres a photo op at Wordibuluc Wier (if we can find it). We then build up along some nice open, flowing roads to some nice twisties heading down to Lorne. Here we get onto the Great Ocean Road for a 44 km section of probably the best the GOR can offer, before getting to our luncheon destination at Apollo Bay.

After a good meal and a chat we head out of Apollo bay to Skenes Creek where we head inland, stopping just a few kilometres in for a photo op with a great view overlooking the ocean and hills. We meet up with some more great twisties before working our way through Barramunga and Forest heading through Winchelsea and up to Inverleigh where we head back towards Geelong on the Hamilton Highwat. We then meet up with the M1 for a leisurely cruise home.

This cruise has some really good twisties and some sedate open road cruising for those on their first cruise. It is a long one, so make sure you have a full tank, and are well rested.

DURATION: Approximately 7 hours including lunch. As a courtesy to your fellow cruisers, please have a full tank upon departure. This is a long cruise - and it should go without saying that you can join/leave at anytime.

MEET: Shell Servo on West Gate Fwy west bound 9am (Melways Map 56 H1)

PLEASE ENSURE YOU HEAD TOWARDS THE TODD RD SERVICE ROAD - IT'S A BIT TRICKY NOW WITH ALL THE ROAD CHANGES LEADING UP THE WESTGATE BRIDGE!

BRING:

Optional, but strongly recommended, UHF 40 channel CB Radio to keep across road hazards and general chatter. It truly adds to the experience if you have a CB, even if it's a $35 Dick Smith one! However, I have 2 that I can lend but get in quick. If Evildaifu comes alone he may have some as well.

Camera for the photo opps and the views.

Coinage for lunch and fuel.

RULES:

1. Obey all laws whilst on the cruise; this means no speeding, no overtaking over double lines (no matter how safe you think it may be), etc...

2. There is a designated cruise leader who will lead the way and set the correct pace for all cruise members.

3. Use the Buddy system - always make sure you can see the car behind you. This will give people behind you an indication on where to turn to make sure nobody gets lost.

4. CB Radios - if you don't have one, follow the maps and directions given out. It is highly recommended to have CB as it enhances the enjoyment of the cruise being able to hear about road hazards and join in on the social chatter.

5. Please turn up to the meeting points with a sufficient fuel in your tank and enough time before the departure time.

6. By attending this cruise you agree not to hold FordXR6Turbo.com, it's Administrators, Moderators, Cruise Controllers, or Owner responsible / liable for any damage and / or grief sustained (simply; you are responsible for your own actions).

Everyone is welcome and its a great day out. It is also a good way to meet your fellow XR6 Turbo enthusiasts and members of the fordxr6turbo.com members. :icon_ford::turboboink::3gears:

If you havn't been on a cruise yet, this is a good one to be your first. So if you havent been on one, come along. You can always leave at any time.

We had a couple of XR5s come along last time. They had a ball.
