Buffy, Trades on 2&1 rosters are earning around the 135 to 155K mark depending on the employer. The longer the roster the higher the coin (only cause you work more)

Bigger companies generally mean shorter rosters and better pay, althought the big two in the Iron ore game are trying to put a cap on the salaries to bring them in line with the rest of there global ops.They do offer better packages if you are looking to make a career there.

My first fifo job was in 01, 63k for 3 and 1....how times have changed.....

Just a speculator, but bit seems to me an opportunity that single guys that drive G6ETs may have a limited opportunity to save for a new walking frames

I def wouldn't go residential as you have said cost of living knocks the hell outta the wage increase.

Theres been demand fore Iron since the 1930's china or not so while it may drop off the world still needs steel.

Gold price go up and down quicker than said hookers undies but having said that they have been mining in that area for well over 100 years.

I dont have a trade as such - and no experience in the mines.

berzerker there will be a few new mines starting around Moranbah QLD soon mate, I no after the wet season work will open up everywhere out here for experienced operators and "greenies" new starters cos they cant get experienced operators. so would be worth doing it to get a foot in the door.. I work at Goonyella Riverside coal mine for Downer EDI mining and they will be doubling the work force in the next few months to about 120 ppl per crew and going to 7 on 7 off roster.. at the moment its 4&4 roster and I live in airlie beach about 3 and a bit hour drive cant be happier..

Hey off topic, Did "FRE4K" on this forum buy your old xforce exhaust?? if so, its in my shed waiting to go on the phoon Kallum never fitted it, hes a good mate I scored it off him when he sold his car.

I'm an u derground miner for bma (bhp) My average work week is 3.5 days a week (12 hr shifts) and normally jam a 12hr overtime shift in. I'm busting my balls to pay off my house and build another one. So with overtime, and our production bonus I'm aiming to gross $190k. It's dirty work compared to open cut, and a LOT more physical, but for the record the safety levels in australia are unheard of anywhere else in the world. But I love it. More money, more time with the kids, and a lifestyle that let's me know one day I'll retire happy. Btw we work 5 on 4 off, 4 on 5 off, 4 on 4 off. Having grown up in a mining town I vowed to never work in the mines. Now I have a permanent job, I'm kicking myself I didn't get in earlier.

yeah its not to bad lifestyle at all mate.. will probably look at changing to something better after the wet season is over and the mines ramp up.. like I said get a foot in the door get some experience and qualifications with the machines and you will be laughing.. like the guys said big bucks to be made over there and storys I have heard from guys who have worked in Kal stay away from the pubs as most blow there money on girls and booze lol..

yeah mate that's my old exhaust.. really he did not use it well you shold have no prob fitting it up as its one of the few xforce exhausts that bolts up with out touching anything lol.. plus the cat was near new too

no worries mate.. about 90% of ppl they are employing atm where I work have no experience in the mines at all. they just cant get experienced ppl as there quite a few jobs around atm.. yeah I was lucky the company paid for my coal board medial, generic induction and SGS induction to work on BMA sites. they did not have this stuff in NSW when I was working in the hunter valley lol.. cheers..
