Manual XR6T's are limited to 1200kg's regardless of rated towbar, from what I have read it is due to the clutch. Tornado's get the stronger clutch therefore the the higher tow rating of 1600. (Ford rated loads anyway).

I was also under the belief that the 2300kg kits need a load leveling kit?

all xr6t and xr8 utes are only rated to 1600kg auto and manual, anything over that is illegal, can do it yes easy, but if you had an accident (even not at fault) your insurance is void

standard xr6 however has a 2300kg towing capability - go figure?

Sorry mate this is a false statement.

My FG XR6 09 turbo ute in auto is rated to 2300kg towing capacity with the hd tow bar.

This is stated in the car manual page 327.

If you have a towbar rated to 2300 on the ones with only 1600 capacity how is it illegal. The weight is a limit ford have suggested it doesnt stop anyone having a higher rated towbar on them.

As for the clutch if you drive it properly it will be fine.

its illegal as its not just the towbar that's is the limiting factor of the vehicle, the gvm and gcm are also factors that need to be considered
