Hi All newby to the forum, just bought myself a bf11 tornado (manuel)and was wondering how come ford says you can only tow something like 1600kgs braked? resason I ask is I have a couple of other cars that need trailering to and from the track, and all up including the trailer it would be closer to 1800-2000kgs braked.

Ford recommend the auto for towing, as they believe it is stronger, and more forgiving than the manual.

My BA is rated at 2300kg.

I think it is more because they think the driver of a manual will labour it too much and f*ck it. But if done properly and as long as towbar can take it I cant see why it wouldnt.

Ive got a bf2 ute 6spd man and have towed some heavy stuff with it that I would estimate up to 2000kg and it did it fine.

I thought it was because Ford only had them tested to 1600kg and not 2300kg so they never met the requirements for the heavier load capacity.

:dontknow:

I know they will do it easy but if its not allowed by the manufacturer and you crash you will be in the :pooh:

If you crashed while doing it really its ya own fault, if the vehicle can do it and the towbar is rated for the weight then why cant you do it.

my last tornado had a 418rwkw street tune, I used it to tow a kanga tipper trailer with all the auger bits and a kanga on it, it was some of the most fun I had in that car, because the trailer and kanga weighed so much I was able to floor it going down the road at 60 and do massive burnouts LOL, probably not the best thing for the car but I couldnt care....

I think all up the trailer, bits and kanga weighed about 2.5tonne... the tornado was a zf 6A.

I also towed the horse float with 2 horses, about 2.3tonne, however I drove very nicely due to the animals in the back.

oh yeah...... private road...... :P

all xr6t and xr8 utes are only rated to 1600kg auto and manual, anything over that is illegal, can do it yes easy, but if you had an accident (even not at fault) your insurance is void

standard xr6 however has a 2300kg towing capability - go figure?

If you have a towbar rated to 2300 on the ones with only 1600 capacity how is it illegal. The weight is a limit ford have suggested it doesnt stop anyone having a higher rated towbar on them.

As for the clutch if you drive it properly it will be fine.
