yer that's what im hearing... A western cedar with a marine spar varnish should last several years in the weather.

But will require a lot of work when it needs to be refinished.

You two chippies could definately help me out here :)

Cedar is soft wood, I wouldn't use that, you would mark it just by looking at it. Use a hardwood, yes you will mark it anyway I know, but hardwood can take a bit more of

A beating !

yeh that was my other concern, if your going to actually use the tray, it may annoy u if it starts getting marked, dinted, scratched. but even if u dont id still go the hardwood. bit more weight :P will look sweet with the name in it. I already have pictures in my head haha

hmmmm... not sold on that idea. any moisture from underneath may cause condensation and sh*te.

heres a quick sketch for some opinions... remember im still finishing current tray before starting this one haha..

tray.jpg

this time stainless round tube and instead of folding the bit underneath it will be rolled.

the rolled back would be nice!

and yeh the condensation would be annoying to say the least. I reckon just keep it uncovered. will look good, and if it gets too dinged up for your liking then decide what to do to protect it..

even if it does get dinged people should be able to recognise the ability and time that went into before it got used as a ute.
